    New movie, new director.

    https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/evi...-new-director/

"You can't keep a good Deadite down. Bad ones too, we imagine. And they're all so wickedly bad in the indestructibly groovy Evil Dead franchise. Hence just two years after Bruce Campbell hung up the chainsaw for good with the conclusion of the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series, he's confirming that the movie franchise will nevertheless live on.

While speaking with Empire, Campbell revealed the next Evil Dead movie is in active development with Lee Cronin, who directed A24's The Hole in the Ground horror movie, taking over directorial duties.

“We're just getting off the phone with Lee Cronin, who is writing and directing the next Evil Dead,” Campbell said. When asked if the movie will feature the familiar cabin in the woods, he added, “It's called Evil Dead Now. Sam handpicked Lee—he did a cool movie called The Hole in the Ground. We're going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”"

So apparently there are 2 alternate endings that 'no one' has ever seen.

I have to say, I barely noticed the difference between the theatrical/uncut versions until that alternate ending which is buried in the middle of the credits. For me, it didn't justify a double dip, even at £5.99.

I've never been 100% sold on them doing a straight version of The Evil Dead, and then putting a couple of scenes in that were so dumb they just negated the entire serious version concept.

Gotcha. And yeah, that always seemed dumb to me too.

No, I meant I wondered why the reg. A release of the unrated version hasn't come out until now when the Nordic blu-ray (of the unrated version) has been out for a year and a half. I see Diabolikdvd even carries the Scandinavian blu-ray.

Cool. And it contains both versions. I bought the Scandinavian blu-ray a couple of months back. I remember trying to find a reg. 1 blu-ray back then but couldn't find one (cos there wasn't one). I've just checked the release info and the Scan blu came out in April 2017. I wonder why it took them so long to put the reg. 1 disk out - after all it's an American film (and it's thee Evil Dead remake!!).

The fun doesn't really start until the last 10 or so minutes.

It's not the gore that's lacking in this remake, it's the sense of fun.

I watched Wither last Halloween. It's really gory but runs too long or drags, one of the two.

The best thing about the ED remake is the soundtrack. I heard it before seeing the film; the guy who released the soundtrack use to take care of some property for Bruce Campbell so was able to get his
help on the music rights. He wanted to release the original film soundtrack but that was more difficult.

I'd much rather watch Wither again.
