  • Death Wish Coming To Blu-ray (Finally)

DVD News Flash tipped me off and it's up on Blu-ray.com now.

    http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=12439

"As part of its 600+ title distribution deal with Paramount, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is set to release director Michael Winner's Death Wish, starring Charles Bronson, Vincent Gardenia, Hope Lange, William Redfield, Steven Keats, Jeff Goldblum and Olympia Dukakis. The classic 1974 revenge thriller makes its Blu-ray debut on February 4, 2014.

Official Synopsis: In this explosive story of revenge and urban violence, Charles Bronson plays Paul Kersey, a passifist who has a change of heart after his family is attacked by a gang of thugs in their apartment, and his wife is brutally murdered. Kersey turns vigilante overnight, stalking the mean streets of New York; on the prowl for muggers, hoodlums and other criminals. Death Wish is a violent, controversial film that tackles urban crime and the average citizen's helplessness in dealing with it.

Warner has yet to detail tech specs or special features."

And a tiny cover image too!

    Jolly good news.

A favorite of mine from the 1970s.

Wish they'd use the original poster art but I'll take what I can get.

Very good news. Not too keen on the cover, but goddamit, I'll be preordering this as I absolutely love the film.

If they do as usual the blu-ray will have the same extras who were on the DVD. So unless I'm wrong the only extra will be the theatrical trailer.

I don't know why they did this, but, for the last few years, Warner Brothers policy has been to drop the original poster art and use really crappy photoshop.

People in advertising say that nothing sells a product better than a face in close-up, especially the face of a movie star. My experience with people in advertising is that they are soulless, vacuous and utterly devoid of human empathy. Anyhow, the above is the same cover used for the repressing of the DVD. Glad to hear the transfer is new. But I still think the original poster would sell more blu-rays:

Isn't it, though? Here's a medium-sized scan. Save it to your desktop, Mark. Then I will delete it so as not to overwhelm the board.

I've got an original hanging in our apartment. Such an iconic image.

Bronson is not to be fucked with.

When I was growing up the guy that was considered the one to most fuck someone up was not Chuck Norris or Clint Eastwood, it was Charles Bronson. This was in the 70s, BTW.
Looking forward to this one. I, too, wish they had used original promotional material for this release. But as long as it looks good, who cares.
