  • What's Your Favorite 80's "Cult Movie"?

Heard the term 80's “Cult Movie Classic” the other day and it got me thinking it might be an interesting topic? What are your favorite 80's Cult Movies? I Love the 1980's and I would argue that the 3 best consecutive years for movies was 1984, 1985 and 1986! Check out the list of Movies released on these years, it will blow your mind! I love what I would call “Cult Movies” Although I'm not sure what qualifies as a “Cult Film”? Classics like Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Arthur, Uncle Buck, Sixteen Candles, Revenge of the Nerds, Trading Places, Stripes, Planes Trains and Automobiles. Porky's, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the Vacation movies, Caddyshack, St. Elmo's Fire, The Breakfast Club and others are so well known I'm not sure they qualify? At the risk of being a buzzkill: objectively speaking, are many of these movies actually good? Or were they just the movies that were prominently displayed at the video shops when we at an age where we could watch the same movie over and over and knew no better? For instance, if Don't Tell Mum The Babysitters Dead was made in 2015 I can't imagine I'd ever have seen it. I used to know it word for word at one point but I'm not sure I even liked it that much then.

But favourite 80s cult movie... I'm trying to narrow it down to one but I'm stuck on Videodrome and The Long Good Friday.

For instance, if Don't Tell Mum The Babysitters Dead was made in 2015 I can't imagine I'd ever have seen it. I used to know it word for word at one point but I'm not sure I even liked it that much then.

But favourite 80s cult movie... I'm trying to narrow it down to one but I'm stuck on Videodrome and The Long Good Friday.
i think younger me checked out Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead to see Christina Applegate.

I think my top two all-time favorite 80s cult films are HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER and THE VANISHING (the original of course). Both are, in very different ways, extremely disturbing and stay with you long after you've finished watching them.

I love most of the ones mentioned above, some for mostly nostalgic reasons and some because they're genuinely good films.

Can't believe I forgot EASY MONEY Loved that movie! Which made me realize I left off BACK TO SCHOOL! I put TRADING PLACES at the top. i have fond memories of MEATBALLS and I thought of it when I was doing the list then forgot about it! SAVAGE STREETS reminded me of ANGEL (Donna Wilkes) Linda Blair went through a Hot phase I would include HELL NIGHT in that category! Haven't seen FEAR CITY? Have to check that one out! Great Choices Scott!
