"A suspicious, ghostly woman (Anita Mui) enters Yuan's (Alex Man) newspaper company to place an advertisement in search of her lover who has been missing for half a century. The woman's pleading eyes unfold the events of her story in 1930 Hong Kong when she worked as Fleur, a high-class courtesan in a lavish brothel and met wealthy heir Twelfth Master Chan (Leslie Cheung). After intense courtship, the two began a doomed relationship opposed by Chan's parents that ends in Romeo & Juliet-style tragedy. They decide to die together and meet in the afterlife. After a dreadful 53-year wait, Fleur returns to the mortal world and wanders the streets dressed in cheongsam, searching for her lost love.
