If it is nearly complete they may delay it and then release? I'm thinking of that shitty Flash movie they still put out despite the star's behaviour.

A good chunk of the Vulture article is culled from a podcast put out by a UK news organization last year. I listened to it twice because, quite honestly, a lot of it felt off to me. There were details in the allegations that were given focus and spun in a way that seemed reckless - for instance, Gaiman's main accuser discusses violent sexual experiences that resulted in her blacking out. In a later episode they interview a woman who'd dated Gaiman 20 years prior who stated that he'd once insisted on sex when she was suffering from an infection, and the producers presented these two separate, arguably incomparable situations as being representative of a "pattern". Two vaguely similar events happening almost two decades apart do not constitute a pattern, even as horrific as one of the acts is portrayed. The series has many instances of these sorts of fact tweaking.

I have no reason to defend Gaiman and if these allegations are true, he can go fuck himself, but it is worth noting that there's an implication that the main accuser was in a relationship with Amanda Palmer, from whom Gaiman was getting divorced at the time, and in spite of Palmer saying that she was fully aware of Gaiman's supposed predatory inclinations and leanings toward extreme BDSM, this young woman was sent by Palmer to stay with Gaiman. In the Vulture article we see photos of the victim - selfies purported to have been taken after each assault, and I have to wonder why she had the foresight to do that. Also, those photos do not necessarily prove anything - they're simply images of a woman staring into the camera with a sad look on her face. If I was mugged on the street, and I went to report the crime to the police and I said that I had evidence of the crime in the form of a picture that I took of myself looking distraught after the fact, I don't believe that would or could be used in any way.

When I watched the docs about Woody Allen and Michael Jackson I walked away from each thinking "That fucker definitely did that." but in this case something just doesn't fully add up. One of the episodes of the podcast focused solely on Gaiman's history with Scientology. Okay, fine, that isn't necessarily a plus for him as a person, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the allegations. If the producers of the podcast felt it was worth padding the series with stuff that has nothing to do with the case at hand, that also leads me to question their integrity and intentions.

Not to victim blame, but I'd get right the fuck out of Dodge after the first time. And the stuff about his kid being nearby reeks of divorce settlement tactics. I expect this will just end in a massive financial settlement. Hardest thing in the world to prove one way or another, and rightly so. I'd rather see a guilty man go free than an innocent one be put away for that. As for Gaiman himself, I don't have an opinion one way or another.

As I was trying to explain to some work colleagues in the pub the other week, the reason Gaiman’s career & reputation is irretrievably fucked by these revelations isn’t so much the exact legal detail of what he is alleged to have done… it’s more the fact that it reveals a side of his personality which is TOTALLY incompatible with the persona he’s put forward through his work & public appearances over the years, to the extent that it makes him come off like a complete fraud.

By which I mean, if he had always fronted like a sleazy mo-fo, and had written stuff which was cynical and mean-spirited (ala James Ellroy, or somebody like that), there’d probably be a percentage of his fan-base who could shrug this off and stick with him…

…but, this thoughful, gentle fellow who always expressed considerate, humane opinions and filled his whimsical fantasy worlds with intelligently written female protagonists and lost, lonely sympathetic outsiders of one kind of another? This nice bloke, who’s mates with Kim Newman and Alan Moore? Not HIM, surely?!

Difficult to imagine ANYONE within the readership of his recent novels, or even his older, slightly more gritty, comics being able to square the tone of the work with the individual who emerges from these allegations, irrespective of their point-by-point accuracy.

Just for the record, I parted company with his writing 20+ years ago, so don’t really have much of a personal stake here - but it’s a horribly fascinating mess to watch unfold.

I'd recommend watching the Amoeba Records "What's in My Bag?" segment with Gaiman and Palmer. There's an interesting dynamic going on there and she gives off some vibes that maybe help paint a picture of what their relationship was about.

Yeah, watching this after reading the article and the allegations coming out gives it a different feel for sure.

I thought Gaiman would be more intested in the contents of a colostomy bag.

I was talking to the owner of a local comic shop on Saturday, he told me that he'd had 3 phone calls from people wanting to sell off their Sandman collections since the allegations came out.

Wow, never understood that attitude. Maybe the time to snap up someone's collection. The closest to that I've ever got is feeling uncomfortable listening to Led Zeppelin, because that was blatant, overt and very underage. I'm not sure how Jimmy Page been protected for so long, they even made him an OBE and had him representing the UK at the closing ceremony of the 2008 Olympics. Nobody seems to deny those stories which, if true, would make him a far bigger nonce than Prince Andrew allegedly is.
