Yea heard that is the reason HULU is doing a similar release with their Wu Tang show. First week got 3 episodes. Then each week afterwards you get a new episode on Wednesday.Originally posted by Ian Jane View PostComment

It didn't impress me too much. Puppet effects on the Creep were pretty meh. VERY slow start. I understand you want to build atmosphere and all that, good, fine, I get it. But this is the first episode of your new show. You have to start with a bang. Let's compare this to Tales From The Crypt's first episode:
Firstly it opens with that amazing Danny Elfman theme and you have this slow procession into the actual crypt. That alone gets you excited. Then, the episode starts after the Cryptkeeper's introduction. After that by minute 3 someone is dead and we have our story set up. We got some action and we have no idea what will happen next (disregarding if you've seen the original movie).
Compare to Creepshow's first episode where a bunch of character actors are standing around talking. We get an actor who looks way too old to be calling his father "daddy" BTW, here's a drinking game for you; take a shot every time this character say's "daddy" you will die of alcohol poisoning. We get all this setup and back story. Plentiful back story. Practically half the episode is nothing but backstory. The actual makeup on the creature was nice but the episode spent so much time diddling around that I just didn't care anymore. And the twist made zero sense (drinking shitloads of beer over long periods of time makes you a mutant why? I'll take Tenafly Viper any time thank you very much.) The second segment wasn't much better. You think two stories in 45 minutes would mean the pacing wouldn't suffer but you'd be wrong.Last edited by Alex K.; 09-26-2019, 07:58 PM."Ah! The first story at least felt like a Creepshow series, in the writing and look of the segment. But I agree, there should have been some reason the beer did what it did. It's biggest mistake was casting the best, and known, actors in flat token roles and leaving all the heavy drama to two randos who couldn't take the weight. But it was at least about what I was expecting (especially coming from Shudder as opposed to, say, HBO).
But the second story is the one that pushed me away. I thought we were going to see what it was like being alive in the doll house from the dolls' perspective or something, but instead it was just like reading a wikipedia summary of a scary story than actually watching a scary story. The cast was even limper, and that girl kept using her little flashlight despite all her lamps being on and everything being perfectly brightly lit. Then the ending was like, what, that's it?
By the way, the credits seem to be all messed up on imdb; I tried to look up the first episode, but they're all flat-out wrong.Comment

It looked like Creepshow but I disagree with the writing. King knew how to infuse the stories with some irony which was key to the EC comics. There's no irony whatsoever to an alcoholic inexplicably becoming a slime monster thing that kills people. It felt like at first that it was going to be like the Jody Verill story from the first Creepshow but it subverted expectations in the worst possible way."Ah! By god's balls what licentiousness!"

Got the first episode watched.
Gray Matter was decent. But I preferred The House of the Head. Never read anything by the author of that story. ANd with a tiny cast,mostly carried by the one actress,got a creepy story with a bleak ending.Comment

I watched it too. I'd say *** out of *****. It has potential but my expectations weren't high to begin with. And I'm not a fan of the new Creep design.Comment

I watched the first episode, and meh. The first story had some of the Creepshow look, but neither story had a good ending, there was no sting, no last laugh.Comment

Well, watched episode 2 and pretty much more of the same. I don't know why they even have the creeper, since he never does or says anything. He's basically just there to hold up a key prop from each story.
Anyway, the first story at least threw back to the movies by doing the comic-book panel shock lighting that Romero created. There was more stunt casting with Jeffrey Combs. The second story was downright irritating with cutesy narration and constant fourth-wall breaking. 45 minutes is too long for even two stories, which feel like they take too long to get around to where they're going. It was hard to resist fast-forwarding through the second story, and in retrospective, I should've. And like last episode, the endings just feel like "that's it?"

CREEPSHOW is just not cutting it for me. Most of it looks like video shorts someone would post on YouTube or whatever. My expectations were low but I'm still a bit disappointed.Comment
