  • Rebel Highway (1994) - Showtime series

I think this would make a killer box-set, having all 10 of these TV movies in one package. I watched Robert Rodriguez's ROADRACERS yesterday and it's one of his best films. The only other one I've seen is Joe Dante's RUNAWAY DAUGHTERS and it's also great, with an amazing cast. It would make a great double-bill with MATINEE. These are the other films in the series:

CONFESSIONS OF A SORORITY GIRL (D: Uli Edel)
    MOTORCYCLE GANG (D: John Milius)
GIRLS IN PRISON (D: John McNaughton)
SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROCK! (D: Allan Arkush)
    DRAGSTRIP GIRL (D: Mary Lambert)
    JAILBREAKERS (D: William Friedkin)
COOL AND THE CRAZY (D: Ralph Bakshi)
REFORM SCHOOL GIRL (D: Jonathan Kaplan)

It's like the exploitation version of MASTERS OF HORROR! Has anyone seen any of these?
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

I used to have some on VHS. A mixed bag, Milius' Motorcycle Gang is great. A box set would be welcome.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

I'm listening to the Allan Arkush S5 episode of The Movies That Made Me and Joe explains that the only negative they saved from the Rebel Highway series is for ROADRACERS. All of the other ones only have tape masters now, so we'll never get Blu-rays of these.

Considering the directors involved, that's criminal. Typical, they only see value in the flavour of the month, and look out how his career eventually turned out after a promising start...

These are the two I've seen as well. Roadracers was a formative viewing experience for me. It was on, I believe, BBC2 one night and before running the feature they ran one of Robert Rodriquez's 10 minute film schools where he comes in and tells a class of film students that they don't need film school, just grab a camera and go out shooting. When I was 14 or whatever I was I thought he was the coolest dude in the world. On a rewatch, with more mature eyes, he comes across as a bit of a dick. Anyway, that combined with the feature that followed, which I loved and looked so doable, set me on a bad path. I immediately grabbed the family camera and went out shooting. Probably fucked my life pretty good when I stop to think about it... Still a great little movie and who knew David Arquette could be cool? He was great in it.

Runaway Daughters was a much more recent viewing experience. It's not in Roadracers class but it's a goddamn charming little flick. Really enjoyed the cast and the dialogue has some great lines.

Looks really interesting, odd that I've never heard of it.

Yeah, these got by me too, but Newt and someone else were talking about this somewhere else a while back. Picked up the 'Movies for the Man Cave' set that has a few of these on it. Little depressing to think that's probably as good a release as they're gonna get.

I think thru import dvd now all the 10 are out. But that Movies for the Man Cave collection has 5 or 6 of the films. And Roadracers has a few comp and solo releasees.

I know I saw most of these as they aired on showtime but the WIP one and isn't there one with Alicia Silverstone stick in my memory.

Can confirm that Roadracers at least gota VHS release. Found that 10 years ago before I tracked down the dvd.

That's Bashki's COOL AND THE CRAZY. Just ordered MOTORCYCLE GANG due to 999's pimping.

Hope you like it. It's pretty devisive, but Milius riffing on Straw Dogs with Jake Busey can't go wrong in my book. I didn't know there was a DVD, need to get a second hand copy.

Heheh, I generally like Milius more than I don't. Definitely want to check it out, it was only $9 shipped.
