  • Grindhouse/Times Square Marquees...

A favorite of mine, I started a thread on another forum long ago and far away...

Anyway... I love seeing pics from back in the day so post them! Maybe this thread will coax Steven (aka distribpix) from out of the shadows...

This is what I have on my computer from that old thread. Most are NYC...

third from the bottom...is that the one framed in your home? I love seeing movie marquees from the old days. I took a picture of the marquee at the old theater I used to go to as a kid recently, but it's not nearly as impressive as I had hoped it would be.

SUCH great pictures, Alison, thanks for sharing. As dirty and depraved as some of the stories that I've heard of "The Deuce", I can't even imagine what it would've been like to have those resources all lined up like that. Awesome. When i was in NYC in 98, there were still a few "private viewing booths" down at Times Square, but even that's changed. Shame, really.

There's still viewing booths on 8th Ave in some of the porno shops. It's marginally sleazy over there to this day.

This thread inspired me to order a few black and white 5x7s of three of the images above to frame. I've been meaning to but kept forgetting. :)

There's a bunch of good images on the Passions Of Carol DVD of Times Square in the 70s.

Yeah, where did you get the big framed pictures though?

Alison.....WOW, great stuff..You have awoken me and this is my first post! Great pictures, I remember a thread like this from a while back and I am so fascinated with these types of pics, especially the ones here in NYC. It is sort of amazing and also sad, to see what has become of some of the grand XXX film houses of 42 street. I often find myself walking down 8 th Ave or 42 nd st and wondering if the powers that be, ever thought that when they began to demolish the infrastructure of the 'Deuce", that they were also dismantling a part of American culture that will never and can never be replaced. That is why these photos are key, and that is one of the reasons why it is so important to keep the Distribpix archive alive. It is not just films......it is history, culture and it is a legacy.

Here is the short tribute to some of the grind houses and theaters of Times Square, also available on the Platinum Elite Collection of Shaun Costello's, 'The Passions of Carol'.

And please visit: www.distribpix.com, it is slowly becoming a one stop source for some very rare golden age erotica, sexploitation and exploitation material!!

This one is older than I like, but I think seeing how the marquee looked back then is neat...
