It's LA and not NYC, but I think this post of mine fits nicely in this thread:

This one is totally on the money, though:

The bottom 3/4 of the Eagle/Earle marquee in my neighborhood was taken down last week. Can't go through this thread to find a picture of what it was (at work and all) but just figured I'd mentioned it since several of you here have seen it in person.

          Sucks. :(

              That does suck.

Here is a tiny bit of good news: this 1922 signage was just uncovered in my hood (downtown Vancouver) last week when they tore down the building next to it. No one had any idea it was there:

Which is all very awesome, because "Grandma's Breasts" is my all-time favourite Harold Lloyd movie.

I think that's really cool. Are they tearing that building down too? If not will someone preserve the sign? Probably not. They'll paint over it.

I remember that place. Isn't that the place we fantasized about buying for like a minute? Sad to see pieces of history ignored and thrown away.

The marquee is now almost entirely gone (Alison took this on her camera phone on the way to work this morning).

I've heard rumors that either a Rite Aid is going in or a bank. Fuck both of those ideas.

Not photography related specifically but the vacant 'Times Square Theater' will now be home to a production most of us don't care about but which will probably bring in a lot of tourists.

This picture is kinda cool though, if only for the Ninja Assassin billboard:

Watching Legion on 42nd st. a while ago was fun. Especially the audience reaction. Of course, it pales in comparison to experiencing the old grindhouse cinemas I'm sure.
