  • Today's Genre

This is probably just a sign of me nearing my mid-40's but I am confused by what is the current "rock genre" that is popular and being played on the radio?

Growing up there was Hair Metal then Grunge. Both were significant and both were on the charts with ample radio play as well as record sales.

What is that today? My son Eli listens to Black Veil Brides, Pierce the Veil, Amity Affliction, Asking Alexandria. All of which suck my asshole. But none of which are played on the radio. Here in the Lou our only "rock station" is the legendary K-SHE 95. K-SHE plays classic rock mostly. Then we have the Iggy Azela and Katy Perry stations.

So what is today's equivalent of our Hair Metal and Grunge? There does not seem to be a genre of radio rock anymore. Or am I just a mid-40's jaded asshole?

Where I live there's the oldie stations that play the same old Classic Rock
The Pop Stations that play Crap.
Country Stations that play Pop (crap)
And a Alternative station that plays Alternative Music like THE BLACK KEYS.
Along with the new bands they'll throw in the odd NIRVANA song and the like.

But the radio ain't where it's at, man!
You gotta search for your own stuff that never gets played.
There's no current genre dominating right now.

My best advice is to look up your favorite records on Amazon and Youtube and see what other fans are buying and listening to.

Oh I have no problem finding my music. I was just wondering what today's youth's genre of rock was.

              Oh.
I have no idea but I assume they've split into sub-genres.

For instance I'm into Horrorpunk and Psychobilly right now.
