  • Recommend a tune you love that most people have probably never heard

I'm always looking for new music, but I'm not one of those whole album guys, or one of those people who check out bands at random. I like to go on what people recommend tune by tune. If I like something enough I'll hunt down the disc, but I rarely keep an entire album. I want tunes that "speak" to me. So recommend me some songs. Paul Casey posted a tune once by The Melvins and I'd never heard them before. Now I am a have all kinds of Melvins music.

I can say I am not a fan of modern country music or top 40. But I am still open minded. My tastes tend to go toward funk, metal, and groovy 70s sounds. Like 70s Euro movie music.

Like this below. I just heard this for the first time Tuesday and I keep going back to it. I dig it.

And then a few weeks ago I heard this tune (not this liver version, but I can't find the disc version). Love it.

    Morbus Chron - Ripening Life

Contender for album of the year for me. Check out the guitar at around 4:40 or so. Interestingly, the singer is Nicke from Entombed/The Hellacopters younger brother. I dug their first album but this new one is on a whole new level.
I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons.

Well, I'll agree with you that most modern country sucks. Not enough heart, good lyrics, or good musicians in general. There are exceptions, of course, but they are few and far between. That being said, I'm a huge Waylon Jennings fan. Waylon did a lot of great stuff, but the stuff from the HONKY TONK HEROES album, full of Billy Joe Shaver songs, is fantastic. Any country fans that like older stuff will know what I'm talking about and probably dig this album. I particularly like this song ("Ride Me Down Easy") from that album:

Bobby Bare also covered it, but I like Waylon's version the best. Waylon always knew what to do with a song, and he makes you believe every word here. Just great stuff from a true musician.

From on the my favorite Chicago bands ever, Apocalypse Hoboken. My friends and I used to go see them at least twice a month from about 1994-2000-ish. They eventually self-destructed, but man -- they were a monstrous live band when they were at their prime.

Cool. The only song I've ever heard by them is UFO.

A friend of mine hipped me to this track a few years ago. Pretty excellent.

That Ron Wray Light Show song is on this excellent compilation (as you probably know.)

Here's a song I like. Link has the other side of the single as well.
