Ditto on Halloween and Suspiria.
Another soundtrack I really liked was the original Dunwich Horror.

Did City of the Living Dead get a soundtrack CD? I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
LaLa Land released a limited edition of The Dunwich Horror. It ain't scary, but I've always loved this score.
So far as I know this is Bernard Herrmann's best, most complete, and most "colorless" soundtrack from Psycho:

Jerry Goldsmith's "Ava Satanica" is too potent for me:
Of course, the scariest music score ever composed for a horror film was Humphrey Searle's experimental music for The Haunting (1963). An exercise in dissonance. This score is just way out there. But alas the score is considered lost, although a few brief cues had turned up some compilation LP or another.

Ravenous.
An amazing horror-western with an amazing score. Why didn't I think of that in my first post. Probably because of my aversion to it. I like the film but I don't like liking it. You know what I mean?"I've been to college, but I can still speak English when business demands it."
