Went into the music section at J&R with my dad over the weekend and they had a big memorial picture of her up, loads of people had written little messages on it and stuff. I thought that was kind of nice to see, until I realized directly across from it was a giant rack of Donna Summer CDs prominently displayed to cash in on the exposure her death got in the media.

    Tacky.

You got that right. Claims too many (including my mom).

Also agree that Donna had a great voice, and she didn't seem to end up really weird like what seems like so many mega-stars do.

63 is too young. Fuck cancer. I wasn't a huge fan but she had a great voice and there's no denying her influence.

    RIP Donna Summer

I'm sure most everyone has heard about this by now, that Donna Summer lost her battle with cancer yesterday at the way too young age of 63. Can't say I'm a big disco fan but I did like some of her tunes. I thought it was worth mentioning here because I bet you won't read this little bit of trivia in any obits. I bought a Peter Thomas cd several years ago - Moonflowers and Mini-skirts. It's a great compilation with some killer groovy stuff. When I first played it, as the 3rd track Black Power came on I knew I'd heard the voice before - it was Donna Summer. She was living in Munich at the time and according to the liner notes this was her first recorded vocal. Anyway, rest in peace Donna.
