I showed Emilie a picture of Mike Ness from '83 and she had a very hard time buying that it was the same guy we saw onstage
My buddy we met up with swore that he would leave if Stevie played that, when the song played, he was too drunk to realize what he'd said earlier and proceeded to dance with some random girl.
I'm not familiar with them either. SxDx is still a good live act, even if the last album sucked. Glad she dug it. 36 year old Ian still likes them live too.
I like 'I Just Called...' - it's a nice song. Maybe not as cool as his earlier funk stuff but still catchy and sweet. Nothing wrong with that.
We went to ACL 2011 this past weekend and saw a good 44 bands over 3 days, Stevie was the highlight of the whole shebang, what with his 2 hour set of awesomeness and a wicked keytar solo to start the show.
Other highlights:
Theophilius London
Big Boi
North Mississippi Allstars
Nas & Damian Marley
MAVIS STAPLES blew my mind out the back of my skull
Kanye West (say what you want, the man knows how to work a stage)
Allison Krauss and Union Station
Fitz and the Tantrums play some good funky soul and roll
Wanda Jackson
Cee Lo
Mariachi El Bronx
The Airborne Toxic Event
Ryan Bingham
DFA 1979
Jack Ingram
Social D (Mike Ness seemed to be having a fucking blast)
The Arcade Fire put on a good show, since their new album is called "The Suburbs" they showed the trailer for "Over The Edge" with Matt Dillon and the first 30 seconds of "The Warriors" up to Cyrus yelling "Can You Dig Itttttt!?"
