I've got a friend who dresses up in very elaborate costumes for these things. I don't think anyone is going to that sort of trouble except huge fans. My friend is called Leia (parents were big Star Wars fans) dates a guy who runs an anime shop and is always posting about obscure Japanese Anime I've never heard of so at least in her case the credentials are all in order.

Also she's a leggy model and posts photos of the costumes on her facebook so I'm all for it.

Also, as I mentioned on my facebook thread about this, but what is up with a bunch of his rant being that he feels that these cosplay girls aren't outstandingly attractive. He doesn't even say that they are ugly, but that they are "con hot" aka average. He seems really upset about that, and I seriously don't even know how to respond to it. Being an asshole that sits around complaining about "no fat chicks" or something idiotic is one thing, but complaining about a normal or average amount of attractiveness? haha

Fuck him. EX MACHINA was a good comic, but Tony Harris is the new Dave Sim. I think he's just intimidated or upset by the opposite sex in general.

I think what I find funniest is how he's happy to hammer home the cliche of comic book fans as sad, introverted virgins too frightened to even approach a woman. I'm not sure whether that's generally true or not but it seems a strange tack to take when they're the people he's selling to.

I don't understand why Buzzfeed brands this as "slut-shaming".

The implication there is that all women who cosplay do so because they love sex, being slutty and attracting sex partners. Could it be that, like their male counterparts, they enjoy pretending to be superpowered characters? Granted, most female superheroes sport revealing (i.e. slutty) costumes but then again so do the dudes.

If a fat guy dresses up as Booster Gold he's a fat Booster Gold. A woman dresses up as Booster Gold and she's advertising that she sucks dick?
