Last night I read the first 2 issues of DCeased: Dead Planet that I got out of the cheapie bin a week or two ago. It's good enough that if I find the rest of the issues in the cheapie bin, I'll get them, but not good enough that I want to pay $3.99 per issue.

I also re-read the first five issues of Afterlife With Archie the other day and it reminded me how really good that series is and how lousy it is that they haven't finished it.
I see the DCeased collections at B&N all the time and flip through them but they never grab me enough to get one. Fair or not, I keep thinking they are aping Marvel Zombies. I'll have to see if the library has any.

Agreed about Afterlife With Archie, boy, talk about killing momentum...At this point I'm just disgusted with the whole Archie/Sabrina fiasco. I know they've returned to Sabrina finally but I can't muster any enthusiasm at this point.

Picked up that Joker Annual at lunch. Flipped through it and the artwork is a awesome as you'd expect. Hope to read it tonight.

    • Read that Joker Annual, it was pretty damn good! And of course, the art is absolutely spectacular. It has a bit of a Frank Miller vibe (think Batman Year One). Gordon is trying to clean up the corruption in the department. Always good to see a Harvey Bullock appearance too (I have no idea if he's in the current Batman comics). Well worth picking up.

      • Looking forward to getting my copy tomorrow morning. And you're right about the DCeased stuff, Andrew, it does owe a lot to the Marvel Zombies idea. I wouldn't recommend it at full price but if you come across them cheap, they're decent enough.

          • I love Fletcher Hanks, Few years back heard about him and found scans of most of his stuff.

Finished Trouble and actually really liked it. Wrote a quick short review on my blog....http://doubletsblogofreviews.blogspo...odson.html?m=0

Think I'm gonna try to read one of the many bought but never read Hellblazer tpbs I have.

Said screw Hellblazer and instead went for 3 items I found in a box in a stack. Halfway thru Saga of the Victims and it is amazing. Great art and the most bat shit insane story I have read in a long time. A Small Killing and Smax were cheap finds at Dirt Cheap last year or maybe the year before. Figured for under 5 bucks each and Moore I would take a chance.

Since the insomnia has returned I figured I will read and just try to distract my mind.

              • Cool, that 'Saga of the Victims' is apparently from one of the old Skywald mags. I've been able to avoid Gwandanaland up til now, but i may cave on this one. Looks awesome.

                • Yea Gwandananaland has started printing all the skywald mags. Sadly the Saga of the Victims tpb from them is missing the last chapter, since Skywald folded before that chapter could be printed.

Read my copy last night and yeah, I definitely see the comparisons to Year One. I liked this issue a lot. Great art, as you note, and the story is solid. Creepy ending too!

Yeah, that ending was definitely creepy. I think that's the first thing I've read by Rosenberg and Tynion, will be keeping an eye out for them now. I also liked how it was made pretty obvious that Gordon knows Barbara is Batgirl. Funny when he got pissed over the cops drooling over her.

Yeah that cracked me up too. I've read all of Tynion's run on the main Batman series. It started off strong but the later half was just sort of meh. His run on The Joker solo series has been really strong though. I also really dig Something Is Killing The Children and really, really dig Department Of Truth.

I'll have to try some of the Joker series, and Department of Truth too.

                          • Read the Gwandanaland reprint of Skywald's Nightmare issue 7. 8 stories,3 of them are pretty good. The others while not as good a read do have nice art.

                              • I highly recommend reading this brief story from comic writer Paul Kupperberg about the late Batman scribe David V. Reed. Very funny!
