"IDW Publishing recently announced some news that should please longtime comic fans, namely two reboots of old favorites.
Many comic fans are rabid about Bernie Wrightson's 1983 FRANKENSTEIN adaptation, which pairs Mary Shelley's novel with extensively detailed artwork from Wrightson. And now IDW has just announced a new horror series called FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE! that is a sequel to Shelley's novel, penned by 30 DAYS OF NIGHT's Steve Niles and illustrated by Wrightson.
The comic will pick up immediately after Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN. Wrightson apparently always considered a sequel and eventually brainstormed the concept with Niles. Their new collaboration examines the story from Frankenstein's perspective, and will span 13 issues, with full color and 32 pages each.
James O'Barr's much-loved THE CROW will also reappear, with a new series from IDW due out in 2012. The new comics will be based on O'Barr's classic, but will also have tie-ins to the upcoming film, which is currently in pre-production. IDW also promises reprints of some of the most beloved issues, as well as upcoming collector's editions of all THE CROW comics, which is an extensive body of work. The series has been bumped around from several different publishers over the years, starting with Caliber Press in 1989 and moving to Kitchen Sink Press, Random House and Image comics, with more spin-off series inspired by the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee.
Look for both THE CROW and FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE! in 2012."
No word yet on if O'Barr will be doing anything on the new Crow series though? I liked his original run but felt it went downhill once other people started dabbling with it.
