It really does, and like that bubble, this one will have to burst too, I think?

    • Grabbed a few other books yesterday.

      New Mutants #1, 19
      Bone #17
Captain America Annual #8 (great Mike Zeck cover)
      Gambit #1

I figure the bubble has maybe 2 more years. Sadly that last time the comic bubble popped comics almost died.

        • So my regular hook up in the Bronx was closed this weekend, he sells outside and it poured yesterday. A friend of mine turned me on to a place out in Long Island that does mostly online sales but opens their warehouse to the public a few times a month, so I made the hour long drive out there yesterday because I had nothing else to do.

          Grabbed a few $1 scores...

          Lone Wolf & Cub #9, 32
          Princess Leia #1
          Weird Science-Fantasy (Gemstone) #2
          Weird Fantasy (Gemstone) #19
          Venom #30, 33 (Cates run)
Warlock And The Infinity Watch #1
          Warlock Chronicles #1
          Taskmaster #1
          Prez #1
          Midnight Tales #18 (Charlton Horror)
Ghostly Tales #88 (Charlton Horror with some Ditko art and cover)
Detective Comics #27 (New 52 version, obviously, Frank Miller Catwoman cover)
          Swamp Thing #144, 160, 161, 162
          Moon Knight #11 (Lemire series)
          Miracleman #2 (Eclipse series)
Conan The Barbarian #22 (latest series - Zub!)
          Phoenix Song Echo #1
          Dceased Dead Planet #2, 4
Jack The Lantern Free Comic Book Day #1 (Vigil art)
          Eclipse Monthly #8
          Basketfull Of Heads #1, 4
          Crime Destroyer #2
Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #7 (Vigil drawing Green Lantern is weird!)

          ...and some $3 bin scores....

          The Demon #16
Alien Encounters #6 (this is the issue that has the story in it that inspired John Carpenter's They Live)

          ...and some $5 scores.

Monster-Sized Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina (reprints 6, 7 and 8)
          Gore Shriek Vol. 2 #1
          Charlton Premiere #1
Elvira Mistress Of The Dark #1 (Claypool Comics)

All in all it was worth going to. This guy had a lot of great 80s/early 90s indie horror books, which I'm always into, and a lot of bronze age Charlton horror as well as the DC/Marvel stuff you expect. I went in with a $50 budget but could have spent a lot more had I left myself, haha.

            • So this weekend, in addition to the local place I go to pretty much every Sat. morning, a store on the other side of Queens is going to have 50 long boxes of $1 books out in their parking lot to go through.

Then on Sunday, there's a spot in Long Island that is going to have a mini-con with 4-5 vendors set up in the morning, then the Queens Comic Swap (which is actually in Brooklyn) that afternoon. A friend and I are going to hit both of those.

I think this means I'm going to buy a lot of comics this weekend.

              • Arleen and I went to Huntsville today and got hung up in a 15 mile back up on I-565. After spending an hour in this hell, we got off and took different roads that were all heavily congested due to the fiasco. To my delight, we passed an Ollie's and I didn't think we had any in the state. On the way back we stopped and I picked up the following:

                Black Hood-The Lonely Crusade $3
                Batman Adventures vol 4 $7
                New 52 Future's End v3 $6
                Superman Doomsday (2016) $4
                DC Meets Hanna-Barbera v1 $4
                The Punisher Cloonan v1 $4
DC Archive Thunder Agents v5 $9

They had "grab bags" of comics for $7, but I didn't give them too much of a look. Just happy to find the place!

This was totally worth doing. While everyone else was digging through scores of recent X-Men, Batman, Spider-man stuff, I grabbed a big fat stack of about 60 issues of Heavy Metal from the 70s through to the mid-90s at 3 for $1!! - not all in the best of shape, but you can't argue with that price. I'm only going to keep the ones that have artists whose work I collect in them (got some Corben, Wrightson, Jeff Jones, Charles Burns, Guido Crepax and Milo Manara issues for the personal collection) due to space issues but I couldn't just leave them there.

My older brother had the original, giant-sized edition of DESTROY!, and it was one of the funniest comics I have ever read. Great art, and great writing.

It's a seriously fun read and I was stoked to find it. The giant-sized version is pretty pricey when you can find it now.

Ollies gets some pretty good stuff in ridiculously cheap. Cool that you found one. The grab bags i've seen at my store don't really seem to be worth it though.
