That Spider-Man 6-part story was kick ass. Death Rattle....how could I forget about that? Cool book. I loved those horror comics the best. That Vault of Horror is funky, The most bizarre part is the fact that everyone on the subway is a cracker.

I hadn't noticed that! I remember reading the Kraven's Last Hunt storyline when it was new, picking it up on the shelf at Memory Lane Comics in NF and buying it for Zeck's art. It freaked me out as a kid. Classic stuff. Death Rattle wasn't as consistent as some of the other 80s indy horror anthologies but it was pretty rad nonetheless. The covers were always cool.

That last one looks like Robert Burns art. I didn't have that issue. Was it Death Rattle or Twisted Tales the had a story about some hunters that got stranded in their cabin and ended up eating the dog, which turned out to be a false memory. Instead they ate the terribly racist rendition of a black guy they used as their "hound dog".

I remember that story and I think it was Twisted Tales but don't take that as gospel.

And it's Charles Burns art. That's probably who you meant.

Yeah him. Charles Burns. That story made me feel gross. More so the notion of eating the dog than the cannibalism.

                    Charles Montgomery Burns, yep.
It's not going to suck itself...

How about the Superman vs. Muhammad Ali comic cover? That's an awesome one! I used to have that oversized comic. It was cool!

Hell-Rider was a Skywald publication. In their early years as a Warren competitor, Skywald produced some really awesome magazines. Here are some choice selections from their early period -- before they bought into their own hype and gave the insufferable egomaniac Al Hewetson carte blanche with their brand name. Still, those early years were really something...
