  • R.I.P. Jack Davis

Was he the last surviving E.C. great? I think so.... sad news but they guy had a great run.

    http://www.newsfromme.com/2016/07/27/jack-davis-r-p/

"One of America's all-time great cartoonists has left us at the age of 91. Jack Davis made his initial fame in EC Comics like Tales from the Crypt and MAD but went on to become one of the most visible (and imitated) creators of advertising, movie posters and record album covers ever. His ability to make anything funnier when he drew it and his keen eye for caricatures could be seen darn near everywhere in this country for well more than half a century."

    More at the link.

So much great work he leaves behind, not just the AMAZING E.C. stuff but plenty of work for Mad and a lot of movie posters too.

Loved those horror comics as kid whenever I could get my hands on some reprints. RIP.

He was the last of the major creators but Marie Severin (colorist) is still alive (although I understand she's not in the best of health) and Angelo Torres and Nick Meglin (both assisting Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta) are still with us.

Man, it's sad to lose a legend, but he left behind a great legacy along with the other EC guys.
