  • Bob Chinn autobiography

Just wanted to see if anyone else out there has preordered Bob Chinn's autobiography that is coming out in February? I went ahead and preordered it, I've been anticipating it since he said he was working on it some time back. I hope it's a good read, I am curious to hear about his thoughts on his career, and also what his life was like in and out of porn. He was one of the legends of porn, and so it is great he's done a book, I am really loving that some of his films have been restored by Vinegar Syndrome, and hope that more are to follow, I really wish they could do some of his Johnny Wadd films for restored DVD's. Maybe Tell Them Johnny Wadd Is Here, and Liquid Lips, those 2 go together well, and were given totally horrible dvd releases in the past. Anyway just wanted to see if anyone else is going to pick up this book, I'll post my thoughts about it once I receive it and have read it.

Thanks, I didn't know it was available to pre-order. For a while there I thought this would be another one of those books that would never come out.

yeah I was thinking it wouldn't come out either, because it was announced so long ago, and then nothing else was ever said about it, and then 2 days ago I was going to place an amazon order, and for some reason I just decided to type in a search for Bob Chinn book lol, and up it came, and I was like YES got to preorder lol. He was really there from the very beginnings of porn in the 1960's so he is a true pioneer and I look forward to reading all his accounts and life story.

            Amazon (at least for me).

It's a major publisher so it should be available at all stores at some point.

Good to know it was picked up by a bigger publisher.

I preordered from Amazon.com too, that's where I get pretty much all my books these days, I used to get some from Deepdiscount, before they stopped carrying books.

Just an update, the book is now scheduled for April 2017. Meanwhile, the publisher has published the complete version in 2 volumes. The complete version is much longer and has colour pictures. Of course, it's much more expensive. The regular version only has something like an 8 page insert with the photos. I have the 2 complete volumes and it's well worth buying for anyone interested in the early adult films. Haven't read it yet but every time I pick it up I find myself reading various sections. My only caveat is that it looks like a print-on-demand book with the paper and ink used (although it's missing the label for POD books that usually appear on the last page). Still it's highly recommended. Here are the two links from Amazon but it's available at other bookstores (Barnes & Noble, etc).

I'm glad someone has them, so I can ask...

I preordered the single volume a year ago. It's coming out soon, and the cost is like $21 bucks. 16"x9", 704 pages.

                    Vs.
Two books at $35 each ($70 total)
                    Slightly larger, at 6.7"x9.6"
                    Page count unknown for each.

What are the page counts of the two volumes? I'm trying to figure what and how much will be cut. Is the first volume just about his upbringing before he started adult industry? I'm really only interested in his period with Holmes and the Wadd films.

Me as well, don't want to read about early life only about the adult film industry, would skip volume 1 if it's all pre-adult moviemaking.

Looking at them again, I do see the print-on-demand information on the back, not sure why I missed before.

Volume 1 is approx. 560 pages and covers up to 1975.

Volume 2 is approx. 575 pages and covers 1975 to 2007.

No index in either but that's not uncommon (the regular edition probably doesn't have one either). Only slight criticism I might have is that the films he writes about is taken from the film list that CULT MOVIES published many years ago (and of course his more recent videos that were done after the list was published). Chinn has previously said that the list was incomplete (he didn't compile the list) but he did a number of 1 day wonders for Harry Mohney that are missing. Of course there's not much that can be said about them but would have liked to see them listed.

Hmmm. So we are looking at 1135 pages vs. 704 pages. 431 pages will get trimmed in the single volume.

I'm interested in the time periods covered in both books. Does the first book waste a lot of time talking about what he got for Christmas when he was 5 years old, or does it really go right into his adult career? I'm wondering what will be cut. How many color pictures are in each volume? I wonder if the single volume will be print-on-demand quality as well, or more professional.

Tough to decide what to get...

All valid questions, the reviews don't give much info either. I might just splurge and get both volumes, It's pricey, but damn that page count makes it a big book(s). Probably a lot information you would miss out on in a single volume as well.
