I've only seen S.S. once so I'll probably pick up the new transfer.

I'm not sure if I've seen Holy Mountain but have seen El Topo. Can't say it was to my tastes but that was during the vhs trading days so I was mainly looking for sleaze, splatter, and porn.

Give El Topo a 2nd chance, it's pretty great. And if you haven't seen Holy Mountain, you need to. I will say that my appreciation for both films was enhanced a lot by Jodo's commentary tracks, especially with Holy Mountain, which isn't so easy to digest on first watch.

Give it another chance and try watching it with the Jodo commentary. Jodo explains pretty much everything to the movie and it really adds another layer to the experience.

I added HM & ET to my wish list so will keep an eye out for them when nothing else appeals and prices are good. I had forgotten they were released on blu in the U.S.

I'm so glad Severin is redoing this in 4K - the current Blu just doesn't look right.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Matt, what problems do you see with it?

Not Matt, but the black levels are nonexistent. I forget the term, but the settings are wrong. Like a lot of Kino product. (Maybe not so much anymore.)

What Marshall said, plus I think the contrast is off.

Kino has done a lot of mastering at PC gamma levels, which differ from HDTV levels, leaving things washed out when viewed on an HDTV and not a computer.

Thank you! Yes, gamma levels. I knew it was something Greek.
