Santo vs. Doctor Death sucking me into the 60's/70's Mexican wrestler genre is why I'm staying away from Bollywood titles despite Mondo Macabro pushing them. Its become far beyond impossible to keep up with this genre film hobby from a monetary and time perspective. These Indicator Limited Editions are amazing but are also killing me.

If they do release The Mummies of Guanajuato then I hope they include the sequel The Castle of Mummies of Guanajuato with it instead of 2 separate releases.

Also: so they're telling us Calderón & Cardona really considered exporting the sexy version of this one under the name 'Lepers & Sex'..?!?

That sounds like a medical research paper I really don't want to read.

Yeah, that would be splendid. Although, I'll be weeping blood every time I look at my shelves/bank account if they continue to do them all as individual special editions....

    Coming in April...

    https://www.powerhousefilms.co.uk/co...f-terror-le-us

    (René Cardona, 1970)
    Release date: 26 March 2024
    Limited Edition Blu-ray

El Santo, the Silver-Masked Man, rides into the Wild West in Santo vs. the Riders of Terror (Santo contra los jinetes del terror), a unique blend of gunplay and lucha libre action.

When a group of lepers escape from their asylum, they fall under the influence of a band of outlaws who are terrorising a small western town. The desperate sheriff calls for El Santo to defeat the bandits, defend the townsfolk, and help the exploited lepers.

Produced by Guillermo Calderón (The Bat Woman) and directed by René Cardona (The Panther Women), Santo vs. the Riders of Terror sees the cine de luchadores meet the ‘chili western’ and adds dashes of horror and romance along the way.

This striking 4K restoration is also coupled with Lepers and Sex (Los leprosos y el sexo), the recently rediscovered ‘sexy’ reworking of Santo vs. the Riders of Terror, which was created by the producers for the export market – all without the knowledge of the family friendly El Santo!

I had a great time with Hot Snake. Its got a good story and some very entertaining duels. It doesn’t hurt that the women are very attractive and show a decent amount of skin either. The shame is that it was really close to being epic. Had the film spent some time making us think there was a supernatural element or that the lead was going crazy, instead of showing the viewer the young gunslinger in the background, it would have been one the more enjoyable westerns of the time. Its an unfair criticism for sure but I couldn’t help but think about it during my first watch.

Santo vs. Doctor Death is an absolute blast, far exceeding my expectations, and what really caught me off guard was just how well it's put together. It's like watching a Connery-style Bond flick with Santo taking on the Bond role. The action doesn't disappoint, with some seriously cool shootouts and fight scenes. And before the spy stuff has a chance to get boring, there are moments where it dips into a Spanish gothic horror vibe, complete with a freaking castle. But what takes it up a notch is the cast full of many familiar Euro-trash faces I love: Helga Line, Mirta Miller, Frank Braña, and George Rigaud. Oh, and there's this cool bit involving a counterfeit painting device that needs a cancerous tumor as an ingredient. Like a Bond villain, George Rigaud's character goes all out by poisoning captive models for the stuff. Seriously wicked stuff that I wasn’t expecting. Honestly, I was glued to the screen the whole way through, never a dull moment, all the way to the grand finale wrapped things up. Pure entertainment, no doubt.

I'm nervous to travel down the Santo rabbit hole. This and "Santo and Dracula's Treasure" have to be the mountaintop and I don't want to sour on these films.

Hopefully this will result in a Volume 2.

Is there any evidence there'll be a continuation of Santo movies from Indicator?
