The Second Sight disc is being authored by David MacKenzie, so if you're the sort of person who chooses which edition to buy based on how good the compression is that'll be the one to get.

And, indeed, there are indications that the compression on the new U.S. Dark Sky Blu-ray is has caused a loss in fine detail (even below the prior Blu-ray release), so I'm definitely looking forward to see what Second Sight has done.

Check out this comparison between the new Dark Sky Blu and the old Dark Sky Blu, fine detail appears to be obliterated: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich

Differences in color timing are one thing (and Tobe apparently approved the look of the new transfer, so if he's OK with it then so am I), but the compression (or whatever else may have caused this issue) is really disappointing.

              From Second Sight's FB page:

"We have had several enquiries regarding our release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. We can confirm that the new restoration included the replacing of a fade to black with a hard cut to black in the opening camera flash sequence. This was in fact a change made during the restoration process in conjunction with Tobe Hooper. While we of course respect this decision we have decided, with approval, to include the fade in our release to adhere to the original vision.

With regard to the audio some very minor adjustments were made to some sound effects on the new mixes. Again this was done in conjunction with Tobe Hooper. This does not affect the dialogue track. We will also include the original mono track with no adjustments."

If I were to base my buying off these screen caps, I'd go with the 40th Ann. Blu.
14 out of 16 look better with the new transfer.

So they're fixing the small restoration hiccups and the disc will be superbly compressed. Looks like the Second Sight will be definitive then.

Lol, I wonder how many different editions this film has had if you count them all.
