  • My Amityville Horror

Huh. So they made a documentary about the whole Amityville thing.

Bloody Disgusting says IFC puts this out in a limited theatrical run and VOD on 3/15/13.

“For the first time in 35 years, Daniel Lutz recounts his version of the infamous Amityville haunting that terrified his family in 1975. George and Kathy Lutz's story went on to inspire a best-selling novel and the subsequent films have continued to fascinate audiences today. This documentary reveals the horror behind growing up as part of a world famous haunting and while Daniel's facts may be other's fiction, the psychological scars he carries are indisputable.”

I'll check it out just 'cause. But I've pretty much bought the whole "it was a hoax" thing.

      I'll have to see this.

Anyone see Abigail Leslie Is Back In Town (1975)? That was shot in Amityville literally down the street from the actual Lutz house. You can see part of the building in some shots. Remember the scene where they're talking about -- well, what they talk about in a Sarno film -- while standing around a group of boats? That's awfully close to the Lutz house. I had cousins in Amityville, and soon after the book came out went to see the place with my cousins and friends. There had been an article in Good Housekeeping that turned the place into a local sensation, but the memory is hazy when that article came out, it was before the book I think. That article tells the story better than the book. After the film came out the neighbors would throw rocks at people who came to stare because they got fed up with it.

I believe there is some truth to the story, but it got exaggerated and lost when professional journalists tried to make the family "prove" it -- Jay Anson and others. This type of experience is difficult to explain and impossible to prove in the sense that a crime scene can be evidenced and proved.

Anyhow, that was a long time ago. I wonder how the house looks today. It would be interesting to take some pictures.

Weren't the movies shot in Canada?

Heavily remodelled, apparently, Richard. Have a look here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-35m-955k.html

I have to go with the "it was all a hoax" opinion on this one........BUT that doesn't mean I would willingly spend a night in that house...remodelled or not!!!

Well, the next owners of the house spent ten years there and said the only "weird goings on" were all the gawkers come to look at the house. So yeah, I wouldn't be too worried if my great aunt's will demanded I spend the night in the house.

            Yeah, hoax. No doubt whatsoever.

I can and I have and have the pictures to prove it. In fact I took both Todd and Mark out there when they were visiting on separate occasions. I'll post some pictures when I get home. The house has been remodeled, no doubt to keep people like us from gawking at it.

And yeah, Abigail Leslie Is Back In Town does provide a nice snapshot of Amityville as well. It's a very quaint setting, really.

I took a picture in June, the outside looks about the same with the exception of the famous windows, and the severe-looking fence around the front yard. The number of big-ass yachts floating out back gives away how incredibly rich this neighbourhood is, as well.

If Mark's photo was taken at night, know what you'd see? Orbs.

What kills me about that neighbourhood? No Friggin' Sidewalks. Seriously. You paid all of that money for a house, you're supposed to go for a stroll on the ROAD?

My thanks to Mark and Paul for the photos.

The new owners changed too much. The town should have bought the house for a museum to preserve it. Charge money to the curious and tourists. Build sidewalks with the revenue. Anything but change the architecture.

                            Oh well.

It was up for sale a few years ago. It would have been awesome if someone snagged it and made it a curiosity for pay, except for the horrible fact that an entire family was slain by that douchebag drug fiend. I say they should tear it down, to be honest.
