  • Scanners Trilogy & The Brood Coming To Blu-ray in the UK

Not a lot in the way of details yet, but Second Sight just announced this on their facebook page:

"Latest 'in the works' news!! We'll be bringing SCANNERS - THE TRILOGY to UK Blu-ray late 2012 / early 2013 together with Cronenberg's THE BROOD. More details as they happen..."

Between this and the Basket Case set that they're working on, they've got some great stuff lined up.

For me it's Rabid, I like the historical reference to the political reaction during the October Crisis who is one of the most awfull thing the ROC had done to us.

Hopefully, THE BROOD is gonna be the uncut version. The R rated has been released enough.

I'd love a Cronenberg commentary for both of them.

                from Second Sight's facebook page
SCANNERS REGION CODE UPDATE. We regret to announce that the release of the three Scanners films will now be Region B and not Region Free. We sincerely apologise for this but unfortunately a contractual issue has arisen at the 11th hour which means we are no longer in a position to proceed with a Region Free release as originally intended. We are very sorry indeed for the inconvenience as we know people will have ordered already on this basis and may now need to cancel but unfortunately the coding is something we must now adhere to with this release, as on the majority of releases. Once again apologies, we're extremely disappointed to have to write this post.

Mark, Criterion will do better with the first one and I'm sure Shout! will do too for the last two ones.

FWIW I've give the contact for some of the actors of part three yesterday to Cliff. So maybe if their extras producer do a small travel to Montreal the're a chance to see Valerie Valois and Daniel Pilon in the extras... if extras were planned for them of course.

I will be waiting to see if Criterion are definitely releasing Scanners before I buy this. I've heard speculation but nothing official.

I am super excited for The Brood, even more so than Scanners. I am slightly hesitant to buy it, though, just in case a U.S. company releases it on Blu-ray and does a better job. It seems that's been happening a lot lately; so many titles being released simultaneously in both countries and it's like a war between U.S. and U.K. companies to see who puts out the better edition. So I always end up waiting for reviews to see what's the best one to buy. I think they're doing lots of great extras for The Brood so it seems this will be the one to get. I'll most likely buy it immediately.

Confirmation that Janus Films/Criterion has THE BROOD
She just finished watching a recent Janus acquisition, David Cronenberg's early horror masterpiece The Brood — she had to angle her laptop on a recent flight so it wouldn't disturb the attendants — and helped arrange the uploading of Janus' 800-film collection to Hulu Plus.

I should've said that confirmation of THE BROOD, means there is no doubt that Janus/Criterion have SCANNERS
