I was pretty negative about them remaking this one....they obviously cant get Joe Spinell (or his sleaze factor!) back...and it was definitely a movie of its time....was worried it was gonna be "updated" and "rebooted" to match todays style of movie making for ADD douchebag teens....

BUT...after seeing the trailer, I am happier...and am actually looking forward to it now....STILL not convinced about Mr Wood being the maniac..but then HENRY wasnt a textbook movie killer sleazebag either...the direction also looks to recreate a strange and unsettling vibe too....and violence looks imminent!!!

but we will have to wait and see.....will be biggest surprise of the year if they pull it off!!!

Holy Shit guys (and gals)....judging from these early CANNES reviews, maybe they have nailed the remake....

Although this one balances it out for the negative..

      http://www.quietearth.us/articles/20...slasher-review

      WHO TO BELIEVE??????

( A couple of the reviews in another language say it is good...While the French language review on IMDB rips it to shreds....

My view...it MAY be good...but no Joe Spinelll = no legit MANIAC movie!!! ( and yes, I would have killed to have seen MR ROBBIE completed before he passed away...)

That Filmoria review definitely sells it though. Still pretty interested in this.

Yep, but it had serious competition from the original's poster.

Ha ha..The chances of them getting something even REMOTELY similar to the iconic poster released of the original in these politically/ socially correct times is so small that there isnt a number small enough to describe it!!!

Like I said, could have been a LOT worse!

MANIAC (2012) remake - it RUKES!!

Run to Williamsberg and stab the Dirty Projectors!!!

I just saw the MANIAC remake and it RUKES! Has a similar post-modern feel to AMER and DRIVE, great synth soundtrack, crazy fuck splatter and Elijah Wood as a nutcase HIPSTER!!! Just as sleazy and uncomfortable as the original! Don't worry, this remake doesn't suck cajones!

and it says 'A BLUE UNDERGROUND film' on the opening titles!!!

Larry Clark couldn't make a splatter film this good!

                PS: It's shot in LA!

I think the original is a good film, not perfect though but good. When Caroline Munro is introduced the film just stops in place and resumes around the 3rd act.

I'm all for a good remake.

I'm gonna merge this, cause that's what I do. I merge things.

The trailer made this one look pretty promising - I actually really want to see it.
