This kind of appeals to me. I like Vincent Cassell and I like underwater movies. I also like monsters. I'm indifferent to Ms. Stewart, she's been good in some stuff, not so good in others - but this might be alright.

"UNDERWATER is a film that follows a crew of underwater researchers who must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. Directed by William Eubank, UNDERWATER stars Kristen Stewart, T.J. Miller, Vincent Cassel and John Gallagher Jr.."

I dig underwater movies too (hell, I even bought the 47 METERS DOWN sequel which was actually pretty fun), this looks pretty interesting.

I'll be seeing this for sure. I have a thing for these under the surface movies. I miss the genre from its glory days in the late 80s early 90s.

I might have to see this. I'm a big fan of LEVIATHAN and DEEPSTAR SIX.

Apparently this is one of those flicks that was finished years ago and has been sitting on a shelf (which explains the casting).

Apparently it's good, according to Mr H on Youtube. Though he tends to go easy on movies where he has interviews lined up with the directors. So... yeah. I don't mind Kristen Stewart. She's not the greatest actress in the world but good enough and she keeps getting those very nice puppies out (god bless her for that, more actresses should take heed). But this... Nah, this ain't it. The shelving for two years always tells you something.

Watched this last night. The cast are all young, instantly forgettable folk - maybe Stewart is the exception - aside from one really annoying, stereotypical wisecracking asshat who reminded me of a similar character in ALIEN COVENANT. Cassel doesn't have much to do and doesn't make much of an impression either. It was tough to tell what was going on at times due to manic editing and a general dark, overcrowded screen. On the plus side, it's fast paced for the most part but not much gore to speak of since it's PG13. The creatures look decent if derivative of others but there's way too many of them. There are worse ways to kill 90 minutes but I doubt I'll need to see this again.

I agree with Andrew. This wasn't bad, but not very good either. It just was. And it felt quite cliché and derivative of all similar movies, it added nothing new to the genre. It had to much shaky cam and dark settings. To be honest, I can't really think of one single thing this film has going for it, yet I did not hate it.

But I agree, this is not a film I will ever have to see again. In fact, in a year or two I will probably have forgotten about its existence.

There's two issues with this movie. The first, it's so murky I couldn't see my own cataracts. Maybe that's what its like 8 miles underwater but its not cinematic. Deciding that they had to keep turning their lights off because the monster was attracted by light was a mistake. One of those storytelling errors that should have had the screenwriter slapping their forehead and heading back to the drawing board long before it got to the selling stage. "Oh shit, how's the audience going to see anything? How about I make it that they're attracted by sound instead? Now everyone can see. Brilliant!" The second is that there's not drama because our heroes are just sitting ducks. They are just stomping along out in the open and vulnerable have no way to defend themselves. So if they survive its just because the monster chose not to kill em. They have to at least be able to hide! Something...

Going full Cthulu on the monster was an odd choice. I can suspend disbelief for a big monster down at the bottom of the ocean but that monster? Come on!

The actors were very good though
