Yep, it's an enormous step up. For things not noticed before, I guess I never noticed the snowflakes during the opening scene outside of the apartment building before.

I was hesitant, given the price and the fact that I didn't need the additional tat. (I already have the novelisation and the music.) However, given that it's a favourite film of mine, I made the decision to move some funds around, and saved some money by feeding my kids nothing more than crisps for a month and selling the family home (we now live in a tent). Definitely worth it!
But seriously, it's an excellent release. I'm very pleased with it.'You know, I'd almost forgotten what your eyes looked like. Still the same. Pissholes in the snow'

Despite declaring earlier in this thread that I wasn't going to pick up this set, I did end up buying the blu-ray version in the end. I can't really explain why, just got to the end of the month, had some leftover spending money (the upside of a year of basically no travel or socialising), so... what the hell.
Watched the theatrical cut weekend-before-last, and can't really add much to what others have said - looked and sounded fantastic. My previous go-to copy was an early '00s DVD, so a huge upgrade - I noticed so much new detail. Looking forward to trying out the Argento cut, which I've never seen before, in a few weeks, and then we'll probably leave the extended version for a nice treat at some point in the future when we feel like watching 'Dawn..' again.
Has anyone else cracked open the book of essays which comes with the set by the way? It's... hard work, to be honest. Naming no names, but there are some fairly bad/pretentious bits of film writing in there, along with a few good ones, and some which touch on interesting ideas but could have really done with a bit of editing/redrafting to get their ducks in line. I've taken a break from reading it for the moment, as it was all kind of blurring into one and generally making me feel like a college tutor marking a pile of student assignments or something.

Base cancelled my order of the UHD set in October when they decided to no longer ship out of the UK. Since I already have the novelization and assumed the essay book would end up what most essay books end up being, I think I can live without it. So I've decided to wait for the standard release next year, which is supposed to have all three cuts.

Here is a video of a fireside hangout I did with George A. Romero about a decade back. This was at a con but off-site, with super limited seating, and free alcohol.
To preface...I asked people if they wanted the already kinda done to death zombie films talk, which had gone on all weekend, or to get into Mr. Romero as a person, and his life. They chose the later thank doG.
I've met and dealt with a LOT of performers and artists whose work I loved but proved disappointing in everyday life as human beings lol. Again, thank doG, Mr. Romero and pretty much his entire group of collaborators we're so incredibly humble and kind, and appreciated the fact their work was so well lived.
Really beautiful.
