Hey Matt, those same buttholes were at my showing too. I really don't understand this cult of irony that's sprung up around Nic Cage. Millennials stink. Their meme based humor stinks.

But I'm glad you liked it, I agree with everything you said. I want to see it again already too!

I think there should be a law deporting Hipsters out of the country.

Can't you just have an armed guard at the door to shoot all the hipsters? It's America anyway

But yeah, I know the feeling, I used to run into those assholes on festival screenings in Finland. They are a rare species in Japanese theaters thankfully, maybe because people know how to behave here. Lady Snowblood, Harakiri and Mermaid Legend are the only screenings I can recall I wanted to kill someone in the audience (I think it was the same bitch in the first two).

Speaking of Japan, Mandy will be hitting the theaters in November as "Mandy - Hell's Road Warrior" (地獄のロード・ウォリアー). Can't wait!

My most anticipated film, and your impressions don't make the wait any easier. Will have to import the US bluray though, as it doesn't seem like it has theatrical distribution in Sweden.

Also: Irony destroys everything that's beautiful.

Sony/Universal is releasing this here on DVD/Blu on the 29th of October. I naturally have it pre-ordered.

Saw this at Cinema 21 in Portlandia. It was sold out and above that hastily made sign was another one warning that the film could trigger seizures in sensitive viewers. That was obviously a good omen.

I agree with all the positive comments for the most part - not completely blown away, but so many great moments and it's stayed with me. The atmosphere so thick it gets in your lungs like cancer - and I somehow mean that in a good way. I also really liked the drugs n' porn element. And yeah, the bathroom scene prompted laughter at the screening I was at too - I'm assuming from people who were inspired to be there by the camp fanaticism that's evolved around Nicolas Cage of late.

Style to burn, but, it's a muddy cross between 70s devil cult films (RACE WITH THE DEVIL, PSYCHOMANIA) and 80s uber violent revenge pictures like the Cannon stuff with Chuck Norris, Bronson etc..

And, yes, it is far too long. The ending is a groaner. The audience I saw it with was pretty darn quiet save for a couple of shoutouts when Cage did some of his patented over the top stylings. At the end. Nothing. Not one clap. Just stoned silence. Best thing about it was to hear one more score from the late great Jí³hann Jí³hannsson (he gets a dedication credit).

Saw this again tonight. Figured it was worth seeing again on the big screen before it goes away. And my friend had an extra ticket. Loved it just as much as the first time. Masterful film making.

                          Well.

                          That was different.

Not sure how I feel about it. I was entertained, but felt it went on a little too long. The pacing was lacking, in my opinion. Tighten it up by even 20 minutes, and it would have been better.

I do have to say, the biker element didn't do it for me. Dug the rest, and even Cage seemed restrained compared to normal, outside of the bathroom scene. But hey, motherfuckin' chainsaw fight.

I loved the bikers. It was such an unexpected addition to the film. It added a nice element of danger as well.

Also, I forgot to mention that there's a brilliant shout out to Don Dohler. Cosmatos is obviously an unapologetic horror fan.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Yeah the Don Dohler bit was great! The pacing is better the second time around, and is an improvement overall from BLACK RAINBOW, IMO. The Black Skull bikers were my favorite part.
