I have a feeling he (or more likely his producers) is/are making some unrealistic demands like a wide theatrical release or something if he really can't get distribution. There's no way a company like Unearthed Films (who distribute A Serbian Film for fuck's sake!) would turn down a chance to put this out on BD/DVD.

Right, but the problem is Unearthed (or any other "cult" company) will only pay an advance of maybe $10K and probably wants the streaming rights also.
