I definitely concur with everything positive said about THE ADDICTION. I think the existential discussions come into play when the transformative power from conversion also changes the principles of the lead character, rendering moral considerations insignificant. The vampire attacks are realistic and brutal, 180 degrees from the sexy vampire melodramas from Hammer (which I enjoy, by the way), with no moans of ecstasy from seduced and bitten female victims.

I wrote this review of Arrow's THE ADDICTION Blu-ray release about a year ago, when it came out. I was very pleased with the Blu-ray presentation. It's not my favourite Ferrara film but close to it, and has grown in my estimation over the years. http://dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=5367
