  • Scream Factory Releasing Species

It hasn't been officially announced yet but "FX artist Steve Johnson let it slip in his Shock Waves interview that he's been contacted by Scream! to do bonus material for a release of the first SPECIES film. Right around 47:45."

Species is a pretty decent schlock film. It's more interesting if you look at it as an inversion of Urotsukidoji where instead of a male demon/alien raping women to death it's an alien woman raping men to death.

      So now it is official.

      ***NEW TITLE ANNOUNCE***

Well the cat (or alien, in this case) is out of the bag. Due to some recently unplanned leaks on various outlets we are moving up our reveal that we are planning a Collector's Edition of the 1995 original sci-fi hit SPECIES for sometime this Summer!

No details to provide at the moment but we update you in the upcoming months.

        ***SPECIES Update & Cover Premiere***

Earlier in the year we announced that the 1995 classic sci-fi hit SPECIES would be joining the Scream Factory family this Summer. Today we have more details to report on that exciting front:

        - Official release date is scheduled for July 11th.

        - This 2-Disc Set will branded as a "Collector's Edition" that will come with a slipcover (guaranteed only for three months after its original release date).

        - The newly-commissioned front-facing artwork you see pictured comes to us from The CRP Group (Firestarter, Serial Mom, Rabid) The reverse side of the wraps will showcase the original theatrical poster art.

        - We will be doing a new 4K HD film transfer. Bonus features and specs are still in progress and will be announced sometime in Late May.

        - Pre-order now directly from our website @ https://goo.gl/1rGGFf
which includes shipping two weeks early plus a free rolled 18” x 24” poster of the newly-designed key art while supplies last!

It's weird how the cover art for every subsequent release of Species shy's away from titties.

I'm re-watching Species 2 and I have to say that it is a fun schlock film. Far schlockier than the first. Much more tits and gore and Skinemax aesthetics. Plus Michael Madsen clearly didn't give a fuck and turns in some grade A dialog.

That was my first thought lol. I'll buy this. I am spending way too much money on double-dips these days.

Significantly upgraded transfers are sometimes worth a re-buy.

Never seen the sequels although I probably should. Recall enjoying the original.

If you liked the original, watching the sequels is the WORST idea you could get. They are on par with the awful direct-to-video sequels to Darkman and Sniper.

I actually like the DARKMAN sequels, particularly the third one.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Then feel free to take your chances, but the Species sequels are REALLY bad. The FX budgets were way too low for the material, the acting is insanely bad, and the writing... oof.

Not really interested in the SPECIES movies. I just wanted to defend the DARKMAN sequels.
