  • Far be it from me to promote Evil, but...

Did anyone see this news recently posted at Cult Labs by one of the mods* there?

    Fantastic Factory Presents...

This actually looks like a decent little box-set to me, as I've seen them all except for Romasanta (which, expectedly enough, was released with a DD5.1 soundtrack on DVD in the US by Lionsgate). And the cover-art looks kinda fun for a change.

Hopefully Faust will be the US unrated cut. As for the rest, they look like decent editions and I don't have any of them on DVD (and I wouldn't waste my money for BDs for any of them, as I simply can't justify BD expense on films that are simply "decently modest" little B-movies). Plus, I can always throw out the booklets...as I wouldn't read them anyway.

Look forward to Ian spilling more beans on these soon!

    * see, I know how to credit a source... ;)

And while I'm at it, Eureka got a certain Narciso Ibanez Serrador film past the BBFC uncut:

If Faust is cut, it's a waste. The gore is what saves it.

I really hope Eureka puts CHILD out on Blu-ray.

Hence my comment about hoping it's the uncut version -- but it's quite a while ago since I saw it. If the unrated version is 101m, that's what Arrow got through the BBFC.
As for that second thought...yep, that's what I would hope too. Eureka's track record with Bluray has been pretty good thus far.

Yeah, the three I own from them are very nice, Criterion level presentations.

Arrow has been showing off the art for this release, and it's pretty nifty.

Got this set yesterday, it's a nicely pacakged affair.

Watched Faust last night, nothing really jumped out as cut but it's been a while since I'd seen it. A decent presentation of the movie though.

But I must ask, as it's something I've cottoned on to with Arrow and some of their releases, are they standards conversions? Pervert! was one of the laziest standards conversions I've seen (looks like crap on a decent-sized HDTV), and their Russ Meyer collection also suffers from the same issue.

I've seen the conversion issues you speak of in the past and but nothing really jumped out at me last night - but it was late and I wasn't really paying super close attention to the A/V. I will say the audio is low on Faust and the subs have got a lot of typos in them for some reason. The video looked okay though. I'll post some screen caps after work from all four films in the set.

In follow-up: I checked the censorship entries on the BBFC database and it looks like all the films were lifted from PAL masters. Looks like I may have to buy this set afterall, when I have a bit of spare cash and nothing else more important is a priority and Amazon UK razor the price. I figure I can always throw out the booklets that come with them, as I'm not having that shit in my house! :p

Edit: Then again...I can get the two films I want out of the set, Arachnid and Romasanta, real cheap out of the US (with Romasanta's English audio in 5.1 as well). So scotch that first thought -- still no support, love, or money, from me for Arrow. Suckers...
