I agree with Mark. This franchise is solid as long as they do uptempo with top notch action and stunts. When they pad the films with endless bullshit story they are out of their depth, as the whole mythology they are trying to build is ridiculous and boring as hell.

Anyway, what I said to him at the end was to basically break down the run time of the previous films. Long story short, if this was 90 minutes of wonderwomanbulletproofsuit wearing, I'd say, "Yep, this franchise is solid". When you start venturing into Godfather length, you better bring the fuckin goods. And for this one, they did not.
But nowadays it's the big, dumb movies that are Godfather length. It's almost to be expected that any big budget crowd-pleaser is going to be at least 2 and a half hours.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Thing about John Wick and its fans is that they want it both ways. On one hand, the series is proud that most of it stunts (at least early on) were done practical without that much CGI etc., and that they have some kind of backstory with Wick and the 'Ronin' style group of hitman. BUT, if you criticize them for being increasingly over the top and how pretentious this band of brothers thing is -- the fans say: HEY!! It's Just an action film, Whaddya Expect??!!

A fifth film sounds like it is kinda-sorta in the works.

Yeah, fair point, I suppose. Truth be told, I'm too lazy to keep up with what's in cinemas lately (unless they're more independent affairs), so I'm likely not the target market. In any case, I have the first 3 on 4K and the 4th on 4K purchased streaming; I will continue to enjoy the first 3, the 4th will become a Godfather III film for me (it can't be as bad as I remember it...oh, yeah, it is, fuck) and I'll watch any potential sequels once they hit streaming. In any case, the John Wick franchise has stopped appealing to me as of this latest one.

I guess the thinking is that people should get more bang for their buck if they're paying modern ticket prices, but the length of a movie has nothing to do with its quality. Like you stated above, these types of movies usually work best between 90-100 minutes. 2+ hours of Wick blowing people away just gets tedious.

I might just skip part 4 based on your comments.

I'd say enough people like it, and Im often in the minority, so I would check it out. I think it actually popped up on Crave.

I started to watch John Wick 4 last night but the first few minutes were so ridiculous and pretentious I turned it off and put on the Flesh trilogy instead. I'll give it another shot soon.
