  • Director/Muse - Your favorite collaborations

The artist/muse relationship in any artistic medium is fascinating but more so in film. The thought of having a performer that a director can project idea's off of and a performer willing to follow a director down any rabbit hole is a beautiful thing. Curious to know some of your favorite combos. Some of mine off the top of my head:

Jess Franco/Lina Romay (and Soledad too, but Jess and Lina were the ultimate team in film and in life)
    Walerian Borowczyk/Marina Pierro
    David Lynch/Laura Dern
    Sergio Martino/Edwige Fenech
    Andrzej Zulawski/Sophie Marceau
John Waters/Divine (and the rest of the Dreamlander's)
    Claude Chabrol/Isabelle Huppert

Those are all male/female (well making some allowances for Divine). Is that the rule or a coincidence? I'd take Lynch's collaborations with Maclachlan over Dern and Franco's films with Miranda over Lina. Other than that these are the first ones that just popped into my head:
    Scorcese and Deniro
    Scorcese and Dicaprio
    Ford and Wayne
    Hark and Li
    Bay and Leboueff.

Purely coincidence. Can't believe I forgot about Cronenberg and Viggo or Jean Rollin and Brigitte Lahaie.
