  • AUDITION- English Language Remake.

Not sure how much Miike's film was close to the original book...but apparently the US remake will follow the book closely (heard that before>???)

    Except................

The new Kassar-produced version is based on the original Murakami novel and will transplant the story to an American setting.
In this version, to be directed by Richard Gray (The Lookalike), Audition's unlucky protagonist is Sam Davis, who lives alone with his son following the death of his wife seven years prior and is convinced by a filmmaker friend to stage the fake auditions. The former ballerina with a mysterious past he falls for is now named Evie Lawrence, but otherwise details fall closely in line with Murakami's best-seller.

Well Mario Kassar is a man of great success. Though he has not produced a watchable film for 20 years. Also, why a remake now? Why not when Audition was "hot" amongst the nerds?

All I can do is laugh. Don't the producers know that bastardizing Asian films for the American market is so 2003? Don't they realize the hot ticket these days is remak... err... rebooting the classic franchises? Seriously though whoever goes to see this and find out it sucks do me a favor and don't come on sites like this and bitch about how you've been had yet again after giving another remake "the benefit of the doubt" when you should have known better at this point. The clichéd yet oh so true phrase "you get what you pay for" springs to mind. You deserve it.

Spike Lee's OLDBOY remake should have warned everyone off remaking Asian movies for a while...

But, like the SWEDE said...Mario Kassar is still living in the 1980's....Which is , ironically, the last time he produced a decent movie!!!
