It’s good to see more catalog titles coming to 4K, but it really sucks that they’re all coming from boutique labels that charge an arm and a leg. We are almost back to Laserdisc pricing here in Canada for some of this stuff.

    Coming on August 13th on #4K from @Shout_Studios: #TheDeltaForce(1986)!

THE DELTA FORCE IS TWO HOURS OF NON-STOP, EXPLOSIVE WALL-TO-WALL ACTION!

When a U.S. passenger plane is seized by vicious hijackers and taken to Beirut, the President calls in The Delta Force — a crack team of commandos led by Colonel Nick Alexander (Lee Marvin, The Dirty Dozen) and Major Scott McCoy (Chuck Norris, Invasion U.S.A.). Against all odds, the men blast into the compound and — taking no prisoners — rescue the hostages. But the mission isn't over yet! A few remaining passengers are being "escorted" to Teheran, initiating a desperate race against time as Alexander and McCoy attempt to save them and avenge America's honor before it's too late.

The Arrow BD looks pretty much like the MGM BDs released in various territories (including some noticeable edge enhancement in various scenes), with what may be a slightly stronger encode. The presentation may be a smidge stronger because of this, but it's barely noticeable. The real reason for buying the Arrow disc is the contextual material. The 'Genre Hijackers' featurette will tide me over till ELECTRIC BOOGALOO gets released ;)

I agree with Richard on SILENT RAGE. That film desperately needs a decent release.

As for being too long ... lately I've been stopping movies in the middle. I'll go check mail, check a forum or to, write something, get a drink, run an errand, then either start the film again or set it aside until the next day. Most films seem to be running out of juice at around 75 minutes these days. Except Star Trek Into Darkness. 20 minutes into that and the artery in my neck got wired and twitchy and I had to reach for the blood pressure meds. Then I went outside to kick a neighborhood cat off my porch as brutally and savagely as I could. I chased it across the yard fully intending to kill it but it managed to climb up a tree. "You miserable son of a bitch" I said, "you ever come on my porch again and I'll show you just what I think of J.J. Abrams." Feeling somewhat better, I went inside and watched John L. Moxey's The Night Stalker (1972). 74 lean hard satisfying minutes and not a frame is wasted. There's a film that doesn't overstay it's welcome.
I think that I'll skip the Star Trek film. :D

Well ok, I admit. It isn't the best film ever made. But it is a film I have seen at least 20 times.

  • Delta Force Special Edition Blu-ray Coming From Arrow

    The Delta Force [Blu-ray]

    THE HIJACK....THE ORDEAL....THE RESCUE...

Cannon Films are known for producing some of the most enjoyable and eccentric action flicks of the '80s - but The Delta Force, which boasts scenes of Chuck Norris flying through the air on a missile-mounted motorbike, surely stands as one of their most entertaining efforts.

American Travel Ways Flight 282 has been hijacked by a group of terrorists claiming to represent the New World Revolutionary Organisation. The Delta Force, under the leadership of Captain Scott McCoy (Chuck Norris), is called in to handle the situation. Still smarting from an ill-fated hostage rescue mission several years prior, this elite squad of special forces are determined to succeed in their mission this time - and assert the might of the American military once and for all.

Drawing on a number of true-life terrorist incidents for inspiration, most notably the 1985 hijacking of TWA Flight 847, The Delta Force is a non-stop thrill ride which culminates in one of the most explosive action flick finales of all time. With Chuck Norris on hand to provide the muscle and gravelly-voiced Lee Marvin (The Killers) in his last ever screen role, The Delta Force is one mission you can't afford not to accept.

    - Collector's booklet featuring new writing on the film, archive content and more!
