  • Blu-Ray question - on a specific movie

So I picked up the BR of Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 this week (had a coupon and loved the original). Upon throwing it into my player at home, tho', I find that the only English-language soundtrack is in 7.1 - is that normal? The ES and FR dubbed versions are in 5.1 so I have to switch over to those and enable subtitles. It's freakin' idiotic! I mean, granted, there's not a lot of dialog to worry over but still...

Was wondering if this is some new Disney thing or what? I picked up Toy Story 3 and while it defaulted to 7.1 it had 5.1 EN at least as an option.
It's not going to suck itself...

What? So you can't put the subs on if you're watching it in English? I don't have the disc (I want it though, the original rules) but that seems... odd.

Oh and it's pretty common for discs to only feature one lossless track and to have the dubbed tracks in either standard Dolby Digital 5.1 or standard DTS rather than their HD counterparts.

Playing the 7.1 soundtrack on my 5.1 system sounds like I've thrown glass into the dishwasher and it's churning everything up.

I was reading about this release on Amazon and apparently it's censored. There a Salvador Dali short that has been deleted. Not sure when Fantasia was originally released, so I suppose it's possible every version I've ever seen has had this part cut out. Still... Disney seems to be censoring a lot lately so I've heard...

So, on your 5.1 system, is it HDMI, so it's playing the 7.1 as 5.1 without the extra 2? I had 7.1 at home, but moved and am still at 5.1, and the RAMBO blu, which only has 7.1 for english, still sounds fantastic. If it's downconverting your 7.1 lossless to 2.0 stereo or something though, that might be.....weird.

                A. - The disc does contain the Dali short, Destino, and that's almost worth it alone (I liked it better than Fantasia 2000 in its entirety).

                T. - I think I might try to record the audio because it's just a screeching, jumbled mess. The TS3 BR did that when I popped it in, too, but thankfully it had an EN 5.1 track.
