My wacky conspiracy theory: over the top promotional gag to bring more public awareness to Clowes and to Fantagraphics (aren't they in some financial distress?). Okay, I looked it up, they are doing Kickstarter campaign, and have been successful at raising funds, but that sort of thing needs momentum. Publicity never hurts.

I am leaning towards this conspiracy theory myself now.......Looks like LaBeouf is going OTT now and getting publicity for either (and) himself and Clowes...
