  • Multi zone Blu Ray Players

Wasn't sure where to put this so if this isn't the place just let me know where it goes.:cuckoo:

I'm looking for a cheap multi zone Blu Ray player that works out of the box. The first one to catch my eye is the Orei BDP-M2 Multi Region Zone Code Free 2D/3D Blu Ray DVD Player - PAL/NTSC.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

WalMart sells the Seiki BD660, I believe. I have one, and they're great. Becoming region free is a matter of simply inputting a code via the remote. The code can be found on videohelp.com.

For under $100, it's a good deal. Plays BD, DVD, DIVX, and .avi. Pretty good for a budget player from Walmart.

They've also made them with better build quality in the past couple of years, as the first one I owned crapped out after a couple of years and got hot after running it for 3-4 hours. The new ones have this issue fixed, and are reliable.

Zane I tried researching those and it looks like they are only sold in Canada.:(

What about this place, Gary? Anybody? I ordered from them (a looong time ago) and they were reliable. I think I purchased a region free dvd player from them, before I discovered how to just hack them to be region free.

I have heard recent negative things about Toshiba players in general, and I personally have had multiple problems with multiple products from Sony. So I've been avoiding those. I'm not region free for BLU myself, but I thought Ian said something about PS3 being a good player for that. They aren't that cheap though. Good luck in your quest.

Is 3-D capability an important feature for you? If not, than I would go with one of the LG players that paul h. linked to in the previous post. I ordered an LG region free blu ray from this company a few years back & the particular model that I bought (BD630) has been discontinued but it worked superbly & reliably in my bedroom system until I gave it away to a relative a few months ago when I upgraded. They offer a lifetime guarantee too which is a plus in case of future compatibility issues with firmware updates. I would go with a brand name like LG over that Orei from Amazon for a few bucks more but then again, I once owned a cheapo Momitsu region free blu ray which worked like a charm with no issues for years.

3-D isn't a consideration. I am liking the LG BP125 the more I dig up on it.

              Crappy.

I'm sure there's another player that's comparable somewhere near you! :)

I've ordered from those guys, and yes, they are reliable. I bought a multi system VCR from them, and they delivered it quickly, with no hassle. This was about 5 years back, but I'm thinking they must still be ok! Recommended!

I've bought two multi-region LG blu-ray players from 22 Electronics. To my complete surprise, the LG players turned out to be dependable. No complaints about 22 Electronics, either. You can also find multi-region / region-free players on ebay.

I bought the Seiki SR212S from Wal Mart several months ago after my old multi-region player died. It's for an upstairs bedroom so not my main player but I'm happy with it. It's an easy hack to make it region free (though you do have to change the BD setting if you switch from one region to another, the dvd does not have to be changed after the initial hack). Got it for around 50 bucks as I recall.

I must live in retail hell. Kmart nor Walmart (nor Sears) had the player Andrew suggested. So I wrote down each brand and model number of the players the local stores offered to see if they were hackable. None of them are at this point. Argh!

I wound up ordering an LG BP125 and hoping that all goes well.

Did you order it from K-mart?

No they didn't carry that model so I went with 220 Electronics. This way I don't have to modify it and it is already set up to do what it should do (in theory anyway).

Don't worry. If 220 Electronics lists the LG BP125 as a region-free player, it will be a region-free player. They don't lie about it. I bought two region-free LG's from them and I have no complaints.
