See.....the Matrix, as poorly written as the storyline was, was a pretty rad movie as far as effects went. When it came out. Now, it's been outdone many times over. And so, despite Carrie Ann Moss in black slow-motion PVC....who cares?

I dunno. I never saw what all the hype was about in the first place, to be honest. But then, by the time it came out I'd seen lots of John Woo movies, so... yeah. Slow motion shoot outs. Neat. Peckinpah beat them by decades and Woo perfected it. The Wachowskis just made it sci-fi.

I liked it when I was younger but it hasn't held up very well. The sequels have held up even less and are just stupid trash.

The only part that's held up for me is the Animatrix, and the comics I guess. I actually prefer JOHNNY MNEMONIC, (and other 90's scifi like THIRTEENTH FLOOR, STRANGE DAYS, DARK CITY) real sets, Takeshi Kitano, Dolph, Ice-T, William Gibson. It's goofy but it knows it. I've enjoyed it more with each viewing whereas the MATRIX loses something with each viewing. The MATRIX films are too focus'd on fights that go nowhere. In the kung-fu movies they were inspired by there's a lot of emotion behind each fight, the Star Wars Prequels fail at this too (and everything else). The characters aren't interesting and it's hard to care about all this bullshit. It's a lot of overly serious dreary crap. The influence that it's had on modern action movies and videogames is really unfortunate.

The sequels were awful but I thought the first one was neat. The story holds together and was reasonably trippy at the start. It's got a great look and showed us a lot of new tricks effects wise that while they've been copied I don't have ever been utilised as well.

I like the first one, and it works well as a stand alone sci-fi thriller. The effects were groundbreaking at the time, and yeah, after every film for years afterwards used the same effects, it became ridiculously boring. The sequels suck, although, I have a fan edit of the two sequels combined and stripped of the really stupid parts and it plays fairly well as a single film.

I got drunk off my ass and watched all of the sequels at once. What a terrible bunch of shit. When he stuck out his fist and started flying around like Superman, I almost pissed myself.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced today that 1999's acclaimed sci-fi action classic The Matrix will be released on Ultra HD Blu-rayâ„¢ Combo Pack and Digital on May 22nd. Directed by the Wachowskis (The Matrix Trilogy, Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending) and starring Keanu Reeves as Neo, Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, The Matrix is widely considered to be one of the most influential films in recent history.

Written and directed by the Wachowskis and produced by Joel Silver, The Matrix won four Academy Awards* and revolutionized the sci-fi action film genre. The Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures film was the first to sell more than one million DVDs, is included on multiple lists of the top sci-fi films of all time, and in 2012 was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant.

The Matrix 4K UHD release is from a new scan of the original camera negative and is the first remaster of the film in nearly 15 years. The 4K UHD remaster was supervised by the film's director of photography, Bill Pope (The Matrix Trilogy, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Baby Driver). A remastered Blu-ray disc from the new 4K scan is also included.

Ultra HD** showcases 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a wider color spectrum, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience like never before.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of The Matrix will feature Dolby VisionTM HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen — frame by frame.

                    SYNOPSIS

                    THE MATRIX TRILOGY

The Complete Matrix Trilogy presents the complete adventures of machine battling truth-seekers Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) in all three of the Wachowskis ground-breaking monumental sci-fi feature films.

                    THE MATRIX

Perception: Our day-in, day-out world is real.

Reality: That world is a hoax, an elaborate deception spun by all-powerful machines of artificial intelligence that control us.

Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne lead the fight to free humankind in the see-and-see-again cyberthriller written and directed by the Wachowskis, and winner of four Academy Awards.

                    THE MATRIX RELOADED

                    NEO. MORPHEUS. TRINITY.

They're back for the powerful second chapter of The Matrix trilogy, and exciting new allies join them in the struggle against foes who are cloned, upgraded and closing in on humanity's last enclave. Back, too, are The Wachowskis and producer Joel Silver, expanding their vision with a spectacle that rocks the senses.

                    WHAT IS THE MATRIX?

Who created The Matrix? The answers lead to more worlds of bold possibility and to a destiny that passes from revelations to Revolutions.

They and other heroes stand on the brink of victory or annihilation in the epic war against the machines in the stunning final chapter of The Matrix trilogy. For Neo, that means going where no human has dared - into the heart of Machine City and into a cataclysmic showdown with the exponentially more powerful renegade program Smith. For The Wachowskis and producer Joel Silver, that means soaring beyond the amazing visual inventiveness of the first two films.

Remember when the first one came out and everyone praised it like it was the greatest movie ever made? That got annoying really fast. I remember I would log on to the film chat forum on yahoo and all anyone would talk about were THE MATRIX and THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. If you said anything negative about either of them you were attacked mercilessly.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

It was pretty innovative for the time and still has great ideas. All of which were squandered in the sequels. I heard a while ago that Warner Bros. is looking to remake it and hopefully they're not going to involve the Wachowski's.

Yeah, I guess. I think the fact that it quickly got so wildly over-praised kind of ruined what was an admittedly cool film. I always preferred BOUND.

I thought Bound was okay. It's really held up by the performance by Joe Pantoliano. I think the Matrix was a fluke and everything else the Wachowski's have touched have been absolute garbage excluding V For Vendetta (maybe).
