  • The Big Heat - still awesome.

Eros School: Feels So Good - no water sports in this one but instead lots of rape comedy and a pig and some menstruation.

    • Lenzi's Ghosthouse with Rifftrax commentary. HIGHLY recommended!
"Ah! By god's balls what licentiousness!"

      • Quatermass and the Pit on blu. Pretty. The texture detail had me dreaming of olive barathea and Chanel pink. The brain-video footage looks like Brakhage. I keep expecting 1967 London to be groovier, but there's Kneale for you.

The Goon Show parody sounds fun: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Scarlet-.../dp/B0056Q61A6

        • Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Jon Stewart would be a good Reed Richards.

          • Piranha (1978): Been years and years since I've seen it. Holds up well but I wouldn't call it an out and out comedy. Biggest difference between it and the remake is that it focuses on not only adult protagonists but also likable ones. It's sad the new generation of horror filmmakers know how to show gore, know how to use the camera, have good ideas, but totally forgot about making likable characters.

                • Requiem For A Vampire - I still really like this movie even if there isn't a whole lot to it. Great locations, cool cast, great score, just trippy and weird and sexy and spooky and strange. Great stuff.

Agreed; I especially like the beginning part with the whole car chase and the girls dressed up like clowns. It's like we're dropped in the middle of something without a full explanation ever being given and then the movie changes course.

                    • Then when the "explanation" comes, it's 30 minutes in, pretty much the first (relevant) dialogue in the film, and rushed through in a matter of seconds!

                      • Yeah, and it barely counts as an explanation - but I don't think it hurts the movie at all. I love that film.

Watched Rape of the Vampire lost night. Great transfer. I liked it more last night than the first time I saw it, probably because my expectations were a bit different. Loads of atmosphere, great visuals, really interesting looking cast and sets... the rest of it is just pretty odd. Love that part with the statue talking in the field though, really cool the way he shot that scene in particular. Very happy to have this one on Blu.

                        • THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR - I like this probably more than I should but looking at it objectively it's a missed opportunity. Brynner and von Sydow are fine, as is Smith, but the other actors range from okay to ridiculously histrionic. Considering it's from the director of ENTER THE DRAGON the film is shockingly lacking in well-shot action and looks like a tv movie far too often. Maybe a low budget and the fact is was shot on the backlot account for this.

                              • The Memories of Angels (Luc Bourdon, 2008). National Film Board of Canada mashup of Montreal footage (from 120 movies). Like dozing off during a class film and time-travelling bilingually in black & white and colour. Sweet remix editing with thematic rhythms (industry, winter, quiet revolution, firefighters, urban renewal, independence), with the footage finding resonances in Montreal (and Quebec) history and culture. Maybe cooler the more you know the city, but I'm just a tourist & dug it. The NFB must have a crazy-jealous-making load of great film: left me wanting to see a bunch more. Contains slush, neon, Genevií¨ve Bujold, Paul Anka, and nuns, trains & ships. On Netflix in Canada.
