Orgasmo/Paranoia
Watched both the Italian cut and the American cut back to back. I gotta
say... I prefer the American cut. I like the added sleaze. But that's just how I roll.
Usually it's the other way around but the Italian cut is downright chaste in comparison.
This is one of Lenzi's very best films regardless of which cut you watch. It's tense
and exciting with good actors all around. Ultra sexpot Colette Descombes sorta steals
it though. Male lead Lou Castel is a little dopey looking but does sinister quite well. He's an
interesting character. Of Swedish/Irish heritage he was a militant communist to
the point of being deported from Italy at one point. I googled some current images
of him and he's almost completely toothless and looks like he's been sleeping under
bridges for 30 years. Severin's recent blu-ray is adequate. It should and could look better.
There's an annoying softness to the picture at times. Since the Italians are expert cinematographers
I doubt it was shot that way. Oh well, it's still a recommended purchase simply because you get both
cuts in decent condition plus the groovy soundtrack with one of the biggest earworms in modern history
on it.
