  • The Grand Duel - quality Lee Van Cleef.

Sector 7 - fun and fairly brainless Korean CGI monster mash.

    • The Goon - normally sports movies kinda suck but this one was good. It was genuinely funny, well acted, plenty bloody and it used the theme from The Littlest Hobo in it.

      • RETURN FROM THE ASHES - Offbeat mid-60s drama/thriller. A woman, presumed dead in a concentration camp, returns to find her husband and stepdaughter are getting it on. Goes in quite a different direction than you'd think and has a clever payoff. Great cast, top notch work from Samantha Eggar, Maximilian Schell, Ingrid Thulin, and Herbert Lom.

        • Terminal Velocity - Mr. Sheen and Ms. Kinski jump out of planes and stuff, there are some bad Russian mobster dudes running around after stolen gold, James Gandolfini isn't quite as fat here as he is in the Soprano's and Sweet Sweetback shows up. The very epitome of dumb entertainment, and I'm happy to have it on Blu-ray.

          • THE CASE IS CLOSED, FORGET IT - Another excellent, politically-tinged thriller from Damiano Damiani. This one stars Franco Nero as an architect accused of hit and run. He's tossed in prison and must learn to survive among the assorted psychos and mafia men. This one's bleak as hell with a really cynical, heartbreaking ending. John Steiner is great as one of Nero's cellmates, a sociopath with nothing to lose as he's already serving life. Damiani is criminally underrepresented on dvd, he made a string of great films like this.

THE MIDNIGHT MAN - Good, if convoluted murder mystery with Burt Lancaster as a disgraced ex-cop who's a nightwatchman at a college, investigating a coed's killing. Lots of great 70s character actors including Cameron Mitchell. Catherine Bach is the victim, she was stunningly beautiful in this early appearance. I saw this a long time ago but didn't realize then it was filmed entirely here in SC, mainly on and around the campus of Clemson University.

A movie I watched the other night.

Magnolia put it out, Seann William Scott stars, but don't let that put you off. Proper review in the works, not that there aren't plenty out there for it already. It took me by surprise, I figured it would suck like most sports movies do, but it's got lots of blood and flying teeth and even a scene with a Frenchman doing coke off of a chicks rack. Oh, and the theme from The Littlest Hobo is in it. Did I mention that? Because that's important.

                  • Vampyros Lesbos - still one of the greatest Franco movies ever, great cast, trippy visuals, killer soundtrack. AWESOME.

                    • The Dead Want Women - goofy new horror film from Charles Band and Full Moon about a movie starlet who offs herself when talkies come into fashion only to rise from the dead and want to do kinky things to two foxy real estate agents trying to sell her old house. One guy is a cross between Fatty Arbuckle and Curly from the 3 Stooges. One blonde chick, though not a natural blonde from the looks of things, spends the entire movie naked. Bad CGI and Eric Roberts. This was kinda fun.

The best Franco flick. Lightning in a bottle.

                        • I'll take EUGENIE...THE STORY over VL as far as Franco goes. VL is great, don't get me wrong - love the soundtrack in particular - but EUGENIE is my fav Franco.

Had a notion the other day to revisit THE SILENT PARTNER so I did last night. I think this is a terribly underrated film, a psychological thriller that also has an element of horror. Christopher Plummer is a truly formidable baddie and Elliott Gould gives a nice, subtle performance.

                          • Delta Force - it starts off more seriously than I remember it but once the rocket shooting motorcylces come out and Chuck Norris is impersonating a Canadian to get into the Middle East, all bets are off, mother fucker.

The Blu-ray looks really nice. Better than I thought it would.

                            • Blood Tracks - Mats Helge's awesome heavy metal slasher set on a snowy mountain and inside an old factory is still FUCKING AWESOME.

Missing In Action - the last Rambo movie kinda ripped this off a bit in hindsight? Regardless, it's fucking dope. Love that scene where Chuck comes out of the water with the heavy artillery and takes out all the bad guys. Emmett Walsh is cool. James Hong is an evil commie bastard. Good stuff.

                              • Missing In Action II: The Beginning - the black guy from Jason Goes To Hell is in this but it's Chuck's show all the way. He bites a rat and kills a lot of VC commies. Some hookers show up and lots of stuff explodes. Not as good as the first movie but still fun.
