Did indeed watch ABSENTIA over the weekend and thought it was very good overall. The movie gets a really eerie vibe going and builds on it right up to an ending that didn't really surprise me but nonetheless creeped me out. This film reminded me of another low key film about missing persons, the Spanish horror THEY'RE WATCHING or THEY'RE WATCHING US. The two go in completely different directions but the feel is very similar. Loved the troll under the bridge sort of fairy tale aspect of ABSENTIA.I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons.

Agreed on all counts, Ian. It's depressing that this thoughtful, well-crafted film will never be seen by most people while the theaters are full of junk every week. That dvd cover doesn't do the film any favors either though.
Watched A LONELY PLACE TO DIE and enjoyed it for the most part. A group of climbers find a little girl buried in a pit way up a mountain, she doesn't speak english. Soon, the people who put her in the hole as well as her father's (he's a foreign war criminal) thugs are all trying to kill the group off. While I thought it lost some steam near the end, most of this is really exciting, very much in the backwoods horror tradition. Good lead performance from Mellisa George.I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons.

That viewing of ABSENTIA prodded me to pull out the film it sorta reminded me of, THEY'RE WATCHING US. As I said before, they both concern missing persons but go in totally different directions from there. THEY'RE WATCHING US is about a Spanish cop who's assigned to a missing person case and ends up discovering some unpleasant truths about what happens to some folks who go missing. He becomes obsessed with the case (he has a personal, tragic connection to the ordeal of a missing family member), and his life quickly unravels. Very low key in style and build up but it has some truly creepy moments, like when he's watching video of random street activity. The end, sad and haunting, stuck with me for a long time.I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons.

Just recently watched "Erik the Conqueror" (I watch movies 25 minutes at a clip during my lunch break at work on a portable DVD player) and enjoyed it so much I spent the next few days watching it again with the Tim Lucas commentary (which was very entertaining and informative). An absolutely rollicking action adventure epic. I'm thinking of following it up by starting "The Vikings" tomorrow.

Grounded for Life season 1
I know I saw all these episodes when they first aired over 10 years ago. And it still holds up as one of the better sitcoms of the past 20 years. Donal Logue is great as the clueless dad.And Megyn Price is as good if not better as teh equally clueles mom.
Blood Diner
What a fun little horror comedy. Plus a great tribute to HG lewis. I had forgotten just how much gore and nudity is in this film. This is good enough to put some effort into tracking down the "rare/hard to find" Lionsgate horror collection dvd set.
