  • Ha, is that where that started? Baldwin really sells the line, even if Mamet didn't come up with it.

I almost asked for an associate producer credit at work today.

True crime stuff like this kind of freaks me out, especially in the case of the killer never having been caught (ala the Zodiac Killer).
I DVRed it also. Watched parts of it the other night and enjoyed what I saw. Now I just need to copy it to a DVD-r. I wonder why this isn't out on DVD yet?

It'll probably look pretty cool on Blu-ray.

Last night... The Platinum Pussycat - a sixties B&W roughie/thriller with a color insert lesbian scene. Some people are on the run from some bad guys and a lot of people have sex. At the end there's a cool shoot out in a junkyard.

          • Manhattan - I'm not a diehard Woody Allen fan but I do like a lot of his stuff and this one still holds up really, really well. It's funny, it's smart, it's well made, the Gershwin score is perfect and the city is photographed so well that you can't help but get swept up in it a bit.

              Agreed!

Last night we watched "Senna", the documentary about Brazilian Formula One driver Ayrton Senna. Compelling viewing and highly recommended for documentary hounds, even if you're not into auto racing.

              • ESSENTIAL KILLING - Jerzy Skowlimowski

This film is gorgeous. Vincent Gallo gives a dialogue-free performance as an Afghani Taliban member captured by American forces who escapes into the forests of Eastern Europe. He does whatever he can to survive and through minimal flashbacks you get a tiny glimpse into his life and in spite of his allegiances I was rooting for him to make it. Wonderful movie.
Now everyone can have a complete KRULL lifestyle.

                • Two of my buddies and I had our monthly psychotronic movie meeting last night. Inspired by "Machete Maidens Unleashed" and recent reference elsewhere on this forum I suggested RAW FORCE. I had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on, but this movie still kicked my ass eight ways to fucking Sunday. The plot appeared to involve a group of people going on a cruise of some sort. At one point it turned into a softcore version of the Love Boat and then the Village People jumped on board and the ass kickery began. In the meantime these weird dudes moving in slow motion took a gang of nubile young nude women captive and put them in a bamboo cage. Back on the ship there was a fire, so a small group of survivors hightailed it out of there on a large raft, but one guy drank all the booze. Eventually the kung fu people on the raft ended up on an island with the slow motion guys and more ass kickery commenced. Our rag tag group of pleasure seekers eventually escaped by seaplane and the whole thing ended only "to be continued..."(?!).

Crazy stuff -- our copy was unfortunately a poor video dub onto DVD from one of those cheapo Grindhouse Collection sets complete with tracking rolls, etc., but it kind of gave it a bit of charm like watching an old VHS tape.

Yes, it's certain to be a huge improvement. The copy we watched was so bad that it was sometimes hard to make out exactly what was going on in the poorly lit night scenes.

Besides all the other junk I mentioned, I forgot about Cameron Mitchell continuously firing off extraneous rounds of ammunition, the nazi dude with the Hitler mustache, and a ravenous pack of piranha fish. This movie really does have everything.

                      • TWILIGHT OF THE DOGS. Postapocalyptic stop-motion giant spiders do not show up until 5 minutes in, so hang in there. Cow. Tank. Pretty alien with ray-gun. Chainsaw & chastity cannibal christians with inverted-peace-signifixion. Atari religious-war game, VR headset with glove, and a character named Deacon Blue. "Glory gee to Beezus!" Oddly wonderful. I would buy this on blu-rays.

Aargh, I can't remember if I bought ESSENTIAL KILLING or not. I meant to. Aargh.

                          • Eine Urmee Gretchen - Dietrich produced and directed psuedo WWII sexy drama action thing. Poorly written but entertaining none the less. A nifty cast of Euro lasses and some amusing moments, sexy and otherwise, to keep you from thinking about the story too much.

Perverse Emanulle - Franco softcore mystery starts off with an awesome bit with Lina Romay and another woman doing the deed au natural with lots of smoking in it. It doesn't really add to the story but it looks very cool, really nicely shot and atmospheric and sexy. From there it goes down hill, not to the point where it's awful but the script really bounces around a lot and not always in the most logical of ways. Jack Taylor's moustahce is bigger than usual in this one. Lina's sporting some (for the time) modern duds which is kinda neat to see as she's usually decked out in slinky stuff or old fashioned gowns and whatnot. Some interesting Franco regulars pop up - the same song is played over and over and over again to the point where I found myself whistling it earlier tonight when I walked the dog and went to the liquor store.

                            • State of Grace. A crime film from 1990 with Gary Oldman, Sean Penn and Ed Harris. Pretentious shit. I understand why I had never heard of it before.

                              • I actually really like State of Grace, or at least I did when I saw it when I was 12 or 13.

Finished last night off with The Other F Word, a fairly well done documentary about punk rock guys hitting middle age and having to figure out how to raise kids. Lars Frederickson would be a weird guy to have as a dad. Good movie. We also watched Naked Came The Stranger and the first half of Doriana Grey.
