      • You going to get FACE-OFF? It has Bobby Orr. I'm not really a baseball fan or whatever, but it sounds pretty great.

Watched HANNA twice. It's fast and pretty and oddly innocent so it got further on a first date than usual, but no kissin'. The fairy tale thing worked, too: you don't need anything really new in a fairy story. Second time through, I listened more than watched: the OED definition of music comes out to play (right after the gallons of testicles) and doesn't want to go back inside. Chemical Brothers plus orchestrated found sound, ambient, and fuck it let's throw in a subway wheelchair wailer and Moroccan washingwomen noise: never lets up, didn't much want it to. The Russian fingers approach to sound design: we exchanged friendship bracelets. I might rip the audio just so the smartypants visuals don't get in the way of the smartypants music.

I liked the monkeytouching bad guy (who provides his own musical cue) almost more than Cate Blanchett.

        • Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil - this was better than it should have been. The comedy works well, there are some really fun set pieces, some of the characters are actually likeable and if the story does get a bit predictable at the end with the supposed twist, getting there is still enjoyable enough. Some good gore scenes too.

          • I thought the trailer seemed like it has potential.

I watched a fan-made trailer comp "Blacksploiteasin' and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I want to see Mean Mother and The Human Tornado.

I didn't like it as much as Dolemite, and it's nowhere near as awesome as Petey Wheatstraw. All the fight scenes are sped up. Interestingly, though, Ernie Hudson is in it and credited as Louis Hudson. Ernie must not have been black enough.

I agree, Petey Wheatstraw is my favorite of the Dolemite films, right from the very beginning!

                • Petey Wheatstraw...I'll have to look for that one. Human Tornado trailer has some outstanding boobs in it. The main reason I want to see it.

                  • Golden Needles - Joe Don Baker throws a lot of Chinese guys through windows while he and Jim Kelly wind up on a chase for a priceless Chinese statue. Burgess Meredith is weird and wears fancy bowties.

                    • After having not seen it for decades, I finally saw THE BRAIN (1988) last night, and it holds up. Good FX, but I have to admit I've never seen a horror movie where the kills were absolutely bloodless. A cop got his head chopped off by an ax, and a guy gets chainsawed in half by his mind controlled wife. Both kills feature NO blood. Even the ax didn't get bloody. Ha! It's a nice homage to INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, except here it's minds getting snatched and not bodies. Monday, or Tuesday, I'll be watching TRICK OR TREAT (1986). Haven't seen that one in a coon's age either. Hope it, too, lives up to it's memory. Saw that one in a theater even.

                        • Watched MORE BRAINS the other night. Totally good. The bummer, though, is that I let a friend borrow Return of the Living Dead, so I couldn't watch it right after. I tried it with Part II, but it's not the same.

                            • Got around to watching Trigger last night. Not something I thought I would really like despite McDonald's involvement but it proved me wrong. A pretty simple story, basically all dialogue except for one musical bit. Thought it would be a chick flick given that it's about two chicks, but it's more of a 'dealing with life' type of story. McDonald does dialogue really well and Tracey Wright and Molly Parker are both great actresses - they made it work where maybe it shouldn't have.

                              • Ip Man - The Legend Is Born - Sammo's only in this for five minutes? What a rip off. Yuen Baio is in it a bit more. This was... so-so. Not as action intensive or as entertaining as the two Ip Man films that Donnie Yen did and not nearly as much fun.
