  • Yeah it's a great movie, but I think it was just as relevant in the mid-90s as it is now. I believe the spawning of cable news channels is really what began that end of objectivity you mentioned. When I first saw it I left the theater kind of annoyed. It was more like a long PSA...yes we get it...media BAD. But the second time I really dug it and now I watch it whenever I catch it on tv.

It religiously gets my back up every time I watch it. Not because of the message, but because I am wholly in agreement with the message and never fail to find myself falling for the "news for profit" bullshit once in a while. It holds up a mirror to society for me and says "Is this who you are? Is this what you want to be a part of?", and I'm not and don't. There's a really neat compact retrospective featurette on the BD that looks back at the film, from '09, and places it in context of now. Stone makes a VERY vaild point, to me, that indulging the internet, social media and modern "news for profit" media is the equivalent of being back in first-year high school amongst the swarming hives of gossips and tattle-tales. Of course, that's just how I feel and I agree with the man totally. But anyway, back to what everyone's watching...

        • Cut Throats Nine - I've seen this I don't know how many times and I still really enjoy it. Just gritty, grisly, dirty and seedy all around.

This just arrived today. Had a quick peep and it looks great compared to the Eurovista release.
Tonight's viewing along with RING OF DEATH. RING OF DEATH!

Yep, not flawless (notice the green haloing around the edges of the snow? Weird!) but definitely an upgrade.

                • Yeah, odd! I can live with it though. This film needs to look grubby.

I didn't get round to watching it last night - booze happened instead.

Last night - The Magnificent Seven. Another one that I seem to be able to go back to a lot. Great cast, great set pieces, great dialogue, great cinematography - a great movie, really.

                    • It was Rock-mania on TV tonight! One station was running Walking Tall, and the other Welcome to the Jungle (The Rundown). So I got stuck watching Jungle, as I'd forgotten how funny, aggressively light, and fun it was. I do love me some Mr. Johnson when the mood takes me. And...Rosario Dawson! America's foxiest actress. Mmmm-mmmm...

I love the ride to the cemetery with McQueen and Brenner. "I was almost elected."

Yeah, such a great way to introduce the characters. And then that crazy guy comes around to them afterwards and insists they swig from his bottle of whiskey. Rad.

It's a pretty bad ass revenge movie. It was honestly way better than it had any right to be.
