  • 2 Headed Shark Attack-Blu ray

Bad CGI but at least the puppet shark looks decent. Directed by Fred Olen ray's kid. Boat with a bunch of kids doing school at sea gets damaged. They go off to a nearby atoll and find out a 2 headed shark patrols the waters.

When your best actor/actress in the film is Brooke Hogan you got issues.

    • Bestialita – Never watched this due to lack of English options and recently Severin released The Creature and I just assumed it was the same movie based on the similar covers (lol). Anyway, when I found it wasn’t I decided to just watch this, language be damned; I think I got most of it though. A young girl living on a small island sees her mother having sex with the family dog as her father walks in on them and burns the house down in retaliation, the girl lives in the ruins of the family home with the dog until she is taken into the lives and bed of an unhappy married couple but her love of the dog and the disgust of the townspeople soon interfere with that… Not a very eventful film but a very enjoyable one for the sleaze and one that begs for a BD release! Love the English title for this, Dog Lay Afternoon. Rumor has it that the dog in this movie belonged to George Eastman, who also co-wrote the movie; just when you thought Eastman couldn't get any cooler… lol In some ways this one makes me think of Orgasmo Nero. Can't believe this gem was sitting for so long...
There are some things I wonder about since I couldn’t understand it though, like the whole movie is told in flashback by the husband to what appears to be a doctor and I don’t know why they’re talking to begin with. I’m guessing he’s probably a psychologist but also wonder if he might be a MD and the guy caught something weird from the girl or something… He could also be a cop though...

The Creature – Not what I expected but all in all not a bad drama about a failing marriage and a dog.

      • Coons Night of the Bandits of the Night

Troma released low budget horror comedy. Big dumb and stupid. The killer raccoons are stuffed. The cast is liike 7 people each playing multiple parts. Feels like a film you make when your parents get their first video camera. But instead of the budget being spent on booze and drugs you spent it on the film. And the budget was 3k or so.

        • Final Destination: A few months ago, I got a Blu-Ray set with the first four of these movies and, since it was used, I'm trying them out to make sure they work. I've seen them all before, but this is only the third time I've ever watched them. The first one is good, albeit a little heavy-handed in its attempt at foreboding and building atmosphere at the beginning, and the deaths, though definitely memorable, feel like prototypes for the big elaborate ones you get in the other movies.

          • Final Destination 2: Like a lot of people, I would say this is probably my favorite of the series. I especially love the opening disaster of the highway accident, I think the other deaths are really cool too, and I did think it was interesting how they did attempt to tie the new batch of characters in with those in the original in some way.

            • The Dead One - The first two times I tried to watch this I fell asleep so it wasn’t too surprising that when I finally watched the whole thing I found it to be a bore. Practically nothing happens in this movie and it feels a lot longer than it is; this thing feels like it’s padding time even when things are actually happening…

              • Final Destination 3: This one is always considered the first misstep of the series but I've always enjoyed it as well. It helps that I like Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ryan Merriman and find their characters here to be very likable, but I also think the opening disaster on the roller-coaster is effective (especially for me, because I hate those kinds of rides) and the other deaths, especially the one in the tanning salon, work really well. It is, admittedly, a step down from the first two, but it's hardly the series' nadir. That comes next, unfortunately.

                • The Final Destination: This is easily the worst Final Destination, not because it's particularly horrendously made or whatnot, but because it's a perfect example of by-the-numbers, we don't care kind of filmmaking. They clearly knew with this one that they had a formula that worked and decided not to put much more effort into it, including with the characters, who are either totally bland or unlikable. While the opening disaster at the race track is pretty good, the other deaths aren't much to write home about, with a lot of involving bad CGI and 3-D effects. Thankfully, the series redeemed itself after this with Final Destination 5.

                  • Don't Breathe 2: I saw the first one a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. However, I'd heard mixed things about the sequel, so I only picked it up when I found it for cheap at McKay's in Chattanooga a few months ago. Gotta say, I thought this was a pretty good, too. I know many had a problem with them making the Blind Man the protagonist this time around but I feel the movie makes it clear that both he and the group he's battling are all awful people, with the only bit of real goodness and innocence being the little girl. It's more of a revenge thriller than a straight-up horror film this time, but I still found it quite entertaining, especially since I wasn't expecting much from it.

                    • Baron Blood: A Mario Bava movie that I just saw for the first time, and I have to say, it wasn't exactly one of my favorites. Granted, Bava's movies often make little to no sense, but this one got more and more uneven as it went on, and it wasn't nearly gory or visually interesting enough to make up for it. Joseph Cotten was severely underused as well. (For some reason, I completely spaced and put this in the What Did You Get Lately thread).

                      • Eyes of Laura Mars: I got this mainly because I knew that John Carpenter wrote the original screenplay, but I'd been told that it was long and boring. Well, upon watching it, I have to say that, while it is rather drawn out and I didn't care for the ending, I found it rather interesting overall. I thought Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones gave good performances, as did Brad Dourif and especially Rene Auberjonois, I thought they used the setting of New York well, and the film definitely had some unique visuals and a quirky tone to it at times. I know Carpenter hates what they did with his screenplay, and the movie is definitely far from perfect, but it did hold my interest for the duration.

                            • Paranormal Activity: Getting to that Paranormal Activity: Ultimate Chills box-set that I got some time ago. I've seen the first three various times before, but none afterward. Anyway, I love the first movie. I think it's simple, effective, nicely atmospheric, and really eerie. Other than Micah being very obnoxious and insensitive, it's a movie I have no problems with.

                              • Paranormal Activity 2: Not as good as the first, but still really effective and entertaining. I really like the setting of the little neighborhood in California for these first two movies, and like the first, this one is nicely atmospheric, with the scenes that take place late at night or in the afternoon, when it's quiet. That jump-scare with the cabinets flying open almost always gets me. Like Micah in the first, though, the dad is a really annoying and unlikable character, even more so given what he pulls at the end. Still, really enjoyable flick.
